Article Found: The US is a Laughing Stock
I found this article at OPED NEWS online. Posted about 15 hours ago, according to Google and it is scathing. Before I'm attacked, I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just thought some DUers might find this article of interest.

Northern Californian psychiatrist Carol Wolman writes:

"The US is a Laughing Stock. We are failing in all areas.":

"Imagine how the US must look from other countries! We are bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, and being driven out. If the point of the Iraq invasion was to use their oil, it is a failure, as sabotage has actually lowered the output of Iraqi oil. We are unable to enforce our will abroad, despite having a military that is more powerful than the next 20 countries combined.

Our long time allies are turning against us. Russia is aligning with Syria and Iran, so that nuking one of those countries could easily lead to all out nuclear war. We have lost control of Latin America, which is, country by country, freeing itself from the grip of the IMF, NAFTA, and the other US controlled financial institutions that have kept them in deep debt for so long.

Domestically, we are in the grip of a dictator and don't know how to get rid of him. Our middle class is disappearing. We are unable to take care of our own disaster victims in Louisiana. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is giving charity oil to our freezing poor."

An easy-read, it's blunt and hits some points.

1. Note
I'm not "in the know" on the level of credibility of OPED NEWS. If others out here know something I don't know, please tell me and don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks all.

2. we ARE a laughingstock--my friends overseas are constantly in shock
about what is going on over here, and wondering why in the world we are putting up with it.

3. US isn't a laughing stock here.
The stupid idiotic war criminals and their blind followers R.

Innocent victims of electoral fraud who want to regain their democratic country but haven't figured out yet on how to accomplish that do have all our support.

4. My Russian friends tell me we have BECOME the USSR!
Friends I have played chess with for many years now tell me that the USA has BECOME the USSR. The only difference is that Jesus took the place of Marx.

The whole world knows what a joke we are and how far we have fallen, sadly, so many millions of Americans believe the rapture doctrine, they are totally brainwashed and they don't care!

7. Right here that picture of the young girl praying to Bush
while the votive candles burn would be most appropriate. Does anyone still have it?

14. That's it. Thanks.
I wonder if "she's" still praying?
Did "she" live in New Orleans?
Has "she" seen Brokeback Mountain?
etc:

5. Pretty 'dead on' if you ask me
I'm not 'in the know' about OpEdNews either, but, quite frankly, I dont see anything in that article that I dont agree with.

I was NEVER ashamed of our country or our government, despite being well aware of a lot of nefarious things we had done in our 200 year history, until December 12th,2000. That was the day I felt like hanging my head. Somehow I just had a gut feeling it was all going to come to this.

6. You know . . .
. . . maybe being a laughing stock isn't such a bad thing. I mean, how much worse can it get here? OK, a lot worse. But maybe it's time that, like an alcoholic that has reached bottom, we realize (as a country) that we are heading for the gutter. Approaching the gutter or even hitting it may allow a new meme develop that like those countries in Latin America that have thrown off their associations with tyranny, so can we do as well. Perhaps given the abysmal performance of the cajones-less democratic leadership and their (with a few exceptions) inability to stand up for anything other than corporatism-light, it's time to really look for an alternative that will really mirror and stand for what the Democratic Party should stand for.

9. You speak wise words, Richard D. We've hit rock bottom, so
there's no where else to go but up, if only the populace recognizes that! If their daily fodder is Rush or O'Reilly, I fear it, but it's starting to hit them in their pocketbooks.

8. That's what happens when you elevate an idiot as Emporor
of the free world. Nowhere else in the world are they under the illusion that they can afford stupidity as a coherent policy choice. Here it's celebrated by at least a third of the population.

and a statesman who would have been hailed as patriot in an earlier time, Al Gore, who sounded the alarm bell that our democracy is great danger, is ridiculed or ignored in our corporate-tainted MSM.

Personal anecdotes (a rant) re: our third-rate healthcare system: this morning my daughter's cough medicine prescription refill was refused by my insurance co- because it was TOO SOON to refill! And a week ago we had to pay out-of-pocket $500 to the dentist (insurance denied it) because my husband replaced his crown TOO SOON- even though the f*cking thing fell out of his mouth 4 times because his prior dentist did a shitty job.

This country is rotting from the inside out.
