If it's a given that Democrats aren't capitaliizing on R scandals .....
my question is WHY aren't they??

Are they (we) so incompetent in the mounting of an attack? Is it lack of courage - backbone? Are (particularly) Senators so comfortable as to not care about the Constitutional breaches and other innumerable abuses?

Are our senators - and reps - so fractured that we can't speak in accord and with a loud voice?

Does the excuse that the MSM are against us ... hold water, and therefore it's a lost battle not worthy of fighting?
Are all members of Congress so beholding to special interests that they're afraid of rocking the boat lest they also be tainted? We know that all congressmen/women depend on special interests and lobbyists - apart from the Abramoff crowd.
Has graft so permeated the system to an extreme measure where each side now holds the goods on the other, just as JE Hoover held dossiers on all important persons ... virtual blackmail?

I'm finding it hard to present a defense for our "wimpy Dems" as time passes, scandals enlarge and the "evidence" of our weaknesses mounts.

Any opinions on the WHY of our perceived impotence, and apologies for not presenting this as a poll.
(Since I don't know the answer, I obviously don't have all the poll options either.)

I'm really beginning to think that the Senate in particular is just a bunch of selfish fat cats who care only of their comforts, and that our ultimate hopes and fates lie in the peoples' house - and I'm having increasing concerns about the latter bunch, too.

...O...

1. I think there's a lack of leadership...
Harry Reid, as late as yesterday, said he did not know where the other Senators stood on the Alito vote? What? Shouldn't he have the cell number of every damn Senator and know where they are leaning? They seem to all be living and operating out of their own little fiefdoms in the Senate. There is no "uniting" on any issue, it seems.

Old habits are hard to break, like the old country song says, and many Democrats seem to think if the Repubs do something atrocious, the "free press" will call them on it, like they have done in the past. But, that is no longer the rule.

Also, I think it is more being happy with their comforts and little corners of power than it is graft or fear. We need to take a big old bottle of Clorox and clean the whole place, I sometimes think...

2. it's a simple answer
Every problem has an answer that is obvious, simple and WRONG! My answer may fall into that category. Maybe we're waiting on THEM to do something and our leaders are waiting on US to do something... I wish, instead of standing ovations that crowd at the Gore speech had started singing "WE SHALL OVERCOME" while marching or just sitting down till the world took notice.

4. The Democratic Party as a whole has horrible pr & marketing abilities
It's something that has frustrated me for years. I work in marketing and pr and the Dem "approach" makes me want to tear my hair out - because it pretty much doesn't exist. I don't know if they have people who are supposed to be doing it and they are just incompetent or if they just ignore that facet of politics. This happens on all levels, from the local level all the way through to the national level. I see so many missed opportunities and so many bungled attempts.

From a personal point of view, I don't know if they even see the problem and/or want help. I have three friends who also work in the field and individually and collectively we've called, e-mailed, registered online, gone to offices...no one responds. We've offered our help for free and no one will take us up on it. That's even more infuriating than their lack of ability!

I just don't get it.
