BENTZIN SQUEAKS INTO RUNOFF WITH HOWARD
http://www.votedonna.com

Sorry if this has already been posted but did not see it. Good news. D. Howard is a great candidate. The repuke who quit and created this need for a special election is now a (surprise, surprise)lobbyist and has close ties to (surprise, surprise) Delay.

1. A lobbyist with close ties to DeLay?
Surely they've got that story wrong ...

:sarcasm:

2. Thought you might enjoy this from the Austin Chronicle of Jan.6, 2006
"Todd Turns Tail: The abrupt resignation of state Rep. Todd Baxter, R-Austin, confirmed what Democrats had been saying for the past year – that the sophomore's limp voting record (especially on education), his contribution ties to Tom DeLay, and the swing demographics of District 48 combined to make an '06 Dem recapture of the seat a real possibility. Determined to derail that ambition, Republican Party chiefs booted the vulnerable Baxter (softly, into the telecom lobby) and tapped millionaire candidate Ben Bentzin in his stead. The governor called a quick special election to fill the seat – presumably to throw Democrats into a circular firing squad, to give Bentzin the edge in the Jan. 17 special, and thereby grant him incumbency for either the March primaries or the November general."

Didn't work that way, did it Perry. Althought if only one Dem had been running, this job would be done. However, I am glad we have Dems that want to get out there and fight and I love seeing more than one running.

3. I just sent her $50.00

The article stated that her run-off candidate has a war chest of hundreds of thousands whereas she has only $6000. This a seat she will clearly win if she can compete with her opponent's advertising on an even plane. I think it imperative that she be supported.

"Money could be a major issue in the runoff election. Bentzin claimed last week to have amassed some $320,000 in contributions, but as far as official campaign reports go, Bentzin reported on January 14 that he had $65,000 compared to Howard's $6,000. Final numbers will be available later this week.

Asked about how she might counter Bentzin's war chest, Howard said money doesn't always make the difference."

5. You should see his ads. They are so slick and just beautiful. They
start out by showing some adorable children and the voice-over says something about children being 25% of our population and 100% of our future. Well, 25% of those children are in poverty and 40% are without health care and 40-50% or more are in bad schools and all of those statistics were extended and exacerbated since Ann Richards was voted out and the rupukes starting with bush took over. But those ads are sure pretty and eye-catching.

4. Two things
She stands a real chance of winning in the run off, if she has enough money to overcome the spending the rupblican will bring to bear.

Second, if the other Dem had not run, she would have won the seat out right. It drives me mad that we had to split our votes and caused this runoff in the first place. Lost of bad feelings here in Travis County about that one. But the fact that Donna had such a great showing is great news for Dems the country over. This is a harbinger of things to come. Time to rally the troops.

6. Do you think responding to his ads with some facts would help or
should she just still be stating so clearly and positively what she wants to do in office. That dellionaire ohio repuke needs to go back and continue the ruination of his own state.

7. Stay positive
I think that is her stong suit. She has a clear message about what she will do in office. Stay on message. I think her vision is what Texas desperately needs. She is an amazing woman that has charisma to boot. Every time I meet her and talk with her I am totally blown away. Let's hope more Dems like her get into races.

8. She is the real deal. Let's hope the big buck ads of her opponent
don't change anything and she can win easily. When is the run-off?
