6. Hey. Whenever in doubt how a virus mutates from poultry to humans
Hey. Whenever in doubt how a virus mutates from poultry to humans expose the potential for the virus to more humans! Yes, MORE humans! Send our poultry to China for processing where there are hundreds of virus deaths! Then return the processed poultry to America! Indeed. Bless our George Walker Bush administration's Department of Agriculture.

"US senator cites bird flu to oppose China exports
    Fri Jan 27, 2006 8:35 PM GMT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China should not be allowed to process and ship poultry meat for sale in the United States due to the risk of bird flu, the Democratic leader of the Senate Agriculture Committee said on Friday.

Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin said a proposal on importing poultry meat from China, drafted by the U.S. Agriculture Department last fall, did not include safeguards to prevent contamination by the bird flu virus or assure processors did not use Chinese poultry, which is banned from entering the United States.

On November 23, the USDA proposed a rule that would allow plants in China to process meat from poultry grown in other nations and ship the cooked products to U.S. markets. No Chinese-grown poultry could be used.

In a letter to Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, Harkin said USDA should "abandon the proposed rule until its shortcomings are addressed."

15. When you say "American poultry"
that implies that it originated here, is exported to China, then imported back here.

That's why it sounds crazy. How could that make economic sense, ya know?

18. Labor costs, labor costs, labor costs
Apparently Tyson thinks that the sub minimum wages it is paying to illegal immigrants and other bottom of the wage ladder workers is way to much, that $3.00/hr is just killing them. Thus, they'll save money by shipping the poultry overseas to be processed by workers making .10/hr. And of course the birds will probably be shipped life, thus placing them under further stress, thus they will taste worse, and be more suseptible to diseases like . . . avian flu.

I think it's time for all of us to start buying organic, free range chicken in this country. Support your local farmer.

14. What won't be outsourced to China?
Keep China communist so that we can send every last shred of work to their country. Here. I have some ideas for the neo-con corporate weirdos.

1) Bus children to school daily on yellow schooljets. No more NEA! Chinese teachers make .02 a week. And all our schoolchildren will learn a second language. How global of us.

2) Chinese restaurant take-out and delivery with food ACTUALLY PREPARED BY CHINESE PEOPLE IN CHINA! What a gimmick! May take a little while to get your order, though.

3) Senate and House representatives. All Chinese. No English speakers. Much easier for Bush Administration to just do whatever the fuck it wants. Just tell to them to vote "yea" or "nay". Don't tell them what yea or nay means. Chinese SCOTUS, too.

4) American auto industry... take it to China. No more pesky unions, pensions.

5) Replace Latin Americans with Chinese. Latin America made it's bid to be our cheap laborers, but the Chinese gave us a better offer.

6) Outsource American prison labor to Chinese.

7) Manufacture American-made anti-depressants in China. After all, we're going to need cheaper pills now that we have no jobs.

8) Send American undergraduate college essays to be graded by Chinese graduate students.

9) Goodbye Hollywood. Hello Tianamenwood.

10) Judicial system. Got a traffic ticket? Tell it to a judge in China via satellite.

11) Chinese day care centers. (child may suffer jet lag)

12) Walmart sales staff. Well, they MAKE the products. Might as well shelve them too.

13) Secretarial Duties. Talk into microphone. Make mp3. Send to Chinese secretary to transcribe. (downside: hard to sexually harass)

Eventually, if we try hard enough, soon the Chinese might even be doing our consuming for us.

16. please engage brains first--think about this
USDA inspectors dont all work in the US.

Products shipped from overseas are often inspected at the place of embarcation or slaughter if those products are being shipped to the US. and this is no different from what happens in other countries. I know for a FACT that there are US inspectors working in Australian meat product factories, and we should HOPE that the USDA will also be able to place inspectors in chinese factories if those products are being shipped to the US.

Actually there are inspectors from other counties working here in the US also doing exactly the same thing, inspecting those products being shipped to their countries.

19. AP Article: USDA: Import China's poultry
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 09:36 AM by Pirate Smile
"USDA: Import China's poultry

Critics who fear bird flu object even to processed products.

WASHINGTON -- The Agriculture Department is seeking to allow shipments of poultry processed in China, where thousands of birds and several people have died from bird flu.

The United States does not accept live-poultry imports from countries where the virulent bird-flu strain is present, and it still would not under the proposed policy.

Instead, the department would allow China to process poultry slaughtered in the U.S. or other countries from which the U.S. accepts poultry.

Critics are urging the department to drop the proposal, fearing how it might affect consumers' perception of how safe it is to eat chicken.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/features/food/orl-poultry2806jan28,0,7009067.story?coll=orl-shoppinghg-headlinesinthek

edit to add - who paid for this? Who profits from this? look at this -

"The industry did not ask for the proposal, National Chicken Council spokesman Richard Lobb said. Chicken companies recently launched tests of every flock in the nation to reassure people that chicken is safe to eat.

"The timing is a mystery to us. We did not seek this rule. We're not objecting to it, but we didn't support it, either," Lobb said.

Under the government proposal, the poultry would have to be fully cooked in China and packaged or canned for shipment to the United States."

Follow the money!

The Government is literally PUSHING outsourcing.

:wtf:
