Yet Another Ft. Hood Soldier Dead in Iraq. He Was Just A Baby...
just seven years older than my little boy.....

In a photo provided by family Army Pfc. Peter D. Wagler, 18, who was assigned to the 1st Batallion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team stationed at Fort Hood, Texas is shown. He served with the Multi-National Division in Baghdad. Wagler died from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Iraq on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006. 4. That reminds me - we had the State of the State here recently
In Idaho.

It was actually very good... Especially the govs stand on education which I thought was just political yammer until my son brought home Cisco/Microsoft certification courses he could take in High School. Amazing, money where their mouths are (and of course the son is going for the graphic arts class - heh). But regardless, he saved for the end 5 military members getting purple hearts.

The first guy looked like a baby.. all bright eyed and bushy tailed. He could barely stand still. The second guy just looked mean.. The other three looked like men.

So then he starts reading what the purple hearts are being rewarded for. Guy number one - shrapnel in the thigh and he will be going back ... I start sniffling...

The mean guy - this is his second, his first was for shapnel in his face ... close up, he's not looking mean... He can't change his expression and he's as young as the first guy... Tears are now streaming down my face and I am ashamed of myself.

I cried my way through boys 1 & 2 are both going back -- heck all of them are going back. :(

6. Thousands of very sad stories like that across the country I am afraid
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 03:57 PM by leftchick
I used to work for the VA in a hospital. I talked with an ex-coworker the other night. OMG, the sad stories of the folks coming home from the Army Reserve in my state. The worst was the boy, 18 years old, blind, in a wheel chair and can not speak because of the injuries to his face. But his mind is fine! He has to live with his parents the rest of his life. Or actually, their lives. What are we going to do with all of these poor souls what with the cuts to benefits and slashing of social programs. OMG this is so horrible.

5. Most of them are .
Hell, at my age, all of them are. It's heartbreaking, to think of all the living they'll never do.

7. He had pretty eyes
Damn, he was the same age as my daughter. Only 18 years old, way to young to die.

16. I was in combat at 18.

River patrol, long range recon, extrication (S E Asia).

I saw so many 18-20 year old kids killed.

It wasn't right then and it damned sure isn't now.

My sons are 23 and 25 and I would go to prison to keep them out of combat.

14. Peter D. Wagler of Partridge, Kansas
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 04:35 PM by TahitiNut
I'm wondering how many of the affluent sons of Partridge, Kansas enlisted. (There might be one or two.) There're 26 'kids' between 16 and 24 in that little town of 259 people. Maybe they could scrape up a whole squad for the Bushoilini Occupations.

Presidential politics: Partridge is in Reno County, which supported George W. Bush in the last two presidential elections. According to unofficial vote totals for 2004, Bush received 17,139 votes (66%) and John Kerry received 8,739 votes.

In the November 2000 election, Reno County strongly supported Bush. Countywide, 15,179 people (63%) voted for Bush and 9,025 voted for Gore. Nader received 877 votes.

Soldier dies in Iraq, honored in Vermont

Published: Saturday, January 28, 2006
Another Green Mountain Boy killed in Iraq. And another Vermont family grieves for a child.

Sgt. Joshua Johnson was 24 years old. He died Wednesday during surgery after a grenade hit the armored Humvee in which he was a passenger. He was in a convoy escorting members of the Iraqi security forces in Tammin, the Free Press reported.

Johnson was the ninth member of the Vermont Army National Guard to be killed in Iraq and the 23rd soldier with Vermont ties to die since the start of the Iraq War in 2003. More than 2,200 U.S. military personnel have died in the conflict.

In March, it will be three years since the war started, and the toll on Vermont has been heavy. Every one of the soldiers' deaths has been felt deeply. Every one brings questions.
