What kind of qualifications should someone have to be a Senator?

What kind of qualifications should someone have to be a Senator?

Should they have military experience? A law degree? Money to burn? A traditional lifestyle?

I can't believe how homogenous our Senate is- it seems like people without at least 3 of the above don't have much of a chance at getting elected.

2. If I were running things ...

Senators would be paid a salary based on the average middle-class wage of their constituents, and would NOT BE ALLOWED to dip into personal funds fot ANY REASON during their term of office.

This would accomplish two things:
1. Senators would be living the same lifestyle as the people they represent, and would know firsthand what impact their actions and votes have on the everyday lives of the people they represent.

2. It would keep the wealthy from ever wanting to 'play politics', unless they were truly committed to the cause.
