Obama-mentum
What a dissapointment this man is. Beneath the soaring rhetoric we heard from him at the Democractic Convention lies another watered-down, risk-averse, beltway Democrat -- a la Hillary, Biden, Lieberman.

I wanted to believe.

1. I know. Sigh.
Today's article highlighting Obama's criticism of Dems using the filibuster
was extremely disturbing.

2. Sorry Steve I know how you feel. If it's any consolation, as you get older
you'll become desensitized to it.

4. Yes. I am so disappointed. I actually met him at a farm rally ,
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 02:00 PM by MoJoWorkin
near where my daughter lives in IL, when he was running for Senate. He talked to us a bit while signing his book. I really thought we had something special in him, but more and more he is the "go-along-to-get-along" DLC'er. When Obama sided with the DLC line and wouldn't stick up for Dean concerning one of his comments--- while Dean backed his election to the hilt, I saw it coming.

9. Let steve know why he shouldn't be disappointed.
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 02:16 PM by Kurovski
That would be more helpful, and possibly help to clarify what you mean.

Thanks. :-)

11. Sure, just like Steve let us know why Obama is such a "disappointment"
He didn't mention anything in particular either, just that he's a disppointment.

18. See posts below as well
Steve's a victim of the "hype" about the man. Obama doesn't have the history to compare him to three other Democrats. There's not much any Democratic Senator can do at this point. Whining about three other Dems, without giving specific answers about why Obama is like any of them is, is just more Dem bashing noise. Although they are trying, Dems aren't running this country. I'd think it would be way more useful to point out the increduble crap that Repukes are shoving down out throats.

6. He's a politician.
So he's always going to be a little bit full of shit. (yes, it does so make sense! :-))

He's got his own career plans. And THAT WILL ALWAYS come first.

Anyhoo, I hear he's voting FOR a filibuster? True? What is going on beyond Obamas carefully planned political rhetoric?

7. You Believed A Myth, Not The Man
Barak has been labeled as some kinda cross between MLK, JFK, RFK and every other icon that can be thrown his way. While he is predominately liberal and progressive, he's not the do-all, end-all many are wishing him to be. As a State Senator in Illinois, Barak was considered a moderate and he's shown that in many of his dealings in Washington so far...and that's what I and other Illinois voters were hoping for.

He's also a "newbie"...he just concluded his first year in the Senate, a place where seniority means everything. The fact he's risen as far as he has in that byzantine system is promising for his future and of the Democratic party.

I'm not sure what you wanted to believe in, but for one who voted for Barak Obama, I'm very satisfied with my Senator and hope he continues to learn and grow the way he does. If there's anyone I'd support as a "savior" for the party, it'd be my senior Senator, Dick Durbin.

Peace...

10. WTF are you talking about??
His speech at the Democratic Convention was as inspiring as it was because it was NOT filled with any empty rhetoric!!

FYI, Obama is right up near the top of the PROGRESSIVE list when it comes to his track record of voting on all issues on the floor of the Senate. Right next to him, also on top of the list progressively, is one of the other Democrats you blasted: Hillary Clinton.

14. Um, maybe you need a new definition of "progressive"....
'cause it ain't Hillary or Obama. They are both DLC DINOS.

They care not for the average middle class or poor voter, but instead answer to their rich corporate masters. :puke:

15. I owe you all an apology--
When the buzzflash rumours were introduced last week, I defended Obama. I said it was premature to assume he didn't and woulnd't support filibuster.

I'm very sorry that I didn't believe. I had no idea he'd be a reluctant supporter or that he would so publicly state it--making us all look foolish for even trying.

I'm bummed for us all. I hope you can all forgive me.

16. I know what you mean
His speech at the convention was outstanding, but in real life he is not impressing me. I won't give up on him, but his great white hope (kidding) great black hope status is crumbling.
He doesn't appear to have the spine for the opposition.
IMHO.

17. They all sell out. It's paycheck & benefits they give a crap about
Not this country. I'm sick to death of politicians. Every single one of them. Vote them all out and start over. Every single time a lawyer gets in charge, we're screwed.
