The New York Times editorializes today on the Bush Administration's specious arguments that NSA's domestic spying targets only active al Qaeda members and that 9/11 could have been prevented if this authority was available earlier.
The legal arguments propounded by the Bush Administration in support of this illegal program have been overwhelmingly dismissed by nonpartisan scholars. My 1/20 Hearing
bore this out and what remains is to keep the public and MSM focused on these facts. As Ted Koppel comments in today's New York Times, keeping the media focused on unprofitable news can be a difficult task.
As our civil liberties are eroded in progressively more insidious ways by this administration, the work of the contributors here is something about which I am very proud. Ordinary people seeking to make a difference through individual action is making a difference here in Washington. I hope that those of you fighting to be heard about the Alito nomination never give up your zeal to make this country better. I will continue to call on you for help to make a better democracy.
