1. Nice digs....previously owned by the ex wife of George
Lucas.

So, that is what being a US Senator and the wife of a military contractor will get you? Sweet!

George sold Pixar to Jobs for 10 million to pay off George's x-wife. She must have got this house as well.

The one on Presido Terrece.

There was also concerns for security when she ran for governor.

9. They're not just buying a house - they're buying neighbors.
A house in Pacific Heights, especially with a Bay view, is the pinnacle of wealth and privilege in San Francisco. Living there, DiFi doesn't have to rub elbows with the hoi polloi and 'lesser' folks. Where does it say that a "representative of the People" is required to have anything to do with them? Isn't it enough to hire them to work in her yard?

That's a nice goddamn address. However, I'll say not $16 m worth. Hell, you could get a nicer penthouse apartment in NYC for $16 m!

Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 06:56 PM by radio4progressives
and she REFUSES to speak out against IT!

She personally ESCORTED CONDI RICE on the Senate Floor at her Confirmation hearing, for Sec of State, and she disgustingly lavished her with underserved accolades - this last year, 2005.

every time she got on a freaking Sunday Morning talk show to discuss her views of the war, well... excuse me, nothing really need to be said more about this does it?

It does? ok: The woman is a fucking war monger and war profiteer, period end of story.

on edit: she and her husband enjoy special private dinners at the white house with mutherfucking George W Bush and the rest of his Crime Family and rat bastards.

so please...

that when a prominent Democrat comes under attack on DU from our loony left, he or she is almost always:
--up for re-election in 2006, and
--walloping his or her prospective GOP opponent six ways from Sunday.

39. Her Senatorial salary would barely pay the property tax
FYI the property tax on her Presidio Terrace home was over $25K per year.

It will be $166,000 on a $16.6 million home.

Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 06:19 PM by leftchick
they can not even fucking relate they are so far removed from "normal" Americans. And this is not her only mansion.....

And she bought it cuz they "needed a view"

So why the big move?

"We've never had a view, and this was an opportunity to get one,'' Feinstein said Friday. "We also have an expanding family -- five grandchildren and soon to be a sixth -- and we needed some more space.''

:puke:

<snip>

This is hardly Blum and Feinstein's only real estate undertaking in recent years. Five years ago, they traded in their five-story townhouse in Washington, D.C., for a nearly $6 million, French Renaissance-style estate in the Spring Valley neighborhood, just down the street from American University.

A couple of years earlier, they built themselves a $7.4 million ski retreat on 30 acres in Aspen, Colo., just down the road from the 15-bedroom pleasure palace of a Saudi prince.

No word yet on if -- or where -- the flagpole will go up on the new digs

27. First of all, in case you hadn't noticed,
you have to be rich to run for office nowadays. At least it helps a great deal.

I don't have a problem with her being wealthy (I know - yes it bothers me that her wealth comes from the war) as much as how she chooses to spend her money. What charities does she support? That says more about her and her character than the kind of house she lives in, IMO.

46. More info about Blum
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/05/11/BU18813.DTL

"Over the years, however, as Blum and Feinstein have grown in their respective spheres of business and politics, critics have periodically wondered whether one or the other member of this power couple had unduly used their money or influence to benefit the other.

Such questions have surfaced again in the wake of the $600 million military contract won by EG&G Technical Services, a new division that URS purchased in 2002 from the well-connected Washington, D.C., investment firm the Carlyle Group.

Carlyle is a $14 billion buyout firm whose associates and advisers include former President George Bush, former British Prime Minister John Major and former Securities and Exchange Commissioner Arthur Levitt. As part of EG&G's sale price, Carlyle acquired a 21.74 percent stake in URS -- second only to the 23.7 percent of shares controlled by Blum Capital.

Anti-war leader Bill Hackwell, a spokesman for the Answer Coalition, said he hates to see politically connected firms like URS win big defense contracts at a time when budgets for schools, health care, housing and other domestic programs are shrinking.

"We regular people don't have any say in all of this, whether the contracts are bid out or not," Hackwell said, adding that the "the whole military industrial complex is becoming enmeshed with the government."
