On Rush Limbaugh & his "sense of humor"
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 02:39 PM by Yollam
Something occurred to me about Limpballs and his claims that conservatives "enjoy life" and have a "sense of humor" about current events and life in general - that liberals are "dour", "humorless", "strident", whatever.

Well of course. If you're a filthy rich republican piece of trash, hearing that 30 kids just became so much obliterated flesh and red mist thanks to a US bomb's "collateral damage", you just think of it as another statistic, an abstract and meaningless event far overseas, and it was just brown people anyway.

If you're a liberal (IE a human with a fully developed conscience and mind and soul), the same event rips your heart out because every kid that was blown apart for NO REASON WHATSOEVER was YOUR OWN CHILD. It's called EMPATHY.

So of course we don't have a "sense of humor" about life and death issues like unjust wars or poverty or any number of other things. They actually matter to us.

To them it's just a big, entertaining chess game. one where, if it goes well, they will make more money in the stock market or from tax cuts, thanks to their republican representatives in government.

I'm glad I take human life seriously. ALL human life. Not just rich, white, American life.

please turn him off. He doesn't deserve your patronage.

6. I haven't listened to him in years.
But that was one of the things he used to say a lot that stuck with me.

I have a great sense of humor, but not about things that are not funny.

I wonder if he still does his "homeless updates" with the Clarence Frogman song "Ain't got a home"?

Ah, what could be funnier than homelessness? :eyes:

14. A cruel sense of humor.
It's funny when someone else is hurting and you can kick him again. Sort of the way they treat Cindy Sheehan. Or like telling racist jokes.

It isn't funny when the President stands up and mispronounces words or otherwise makes a complete fool of himself.

He came on once while I was in the middle of lunch and talked about Princess Di, and her campaign against land mines. He really made fun of her, belittled her and said she had no business taking a stand on anything.

I remember his using a term "Feminazis." He doesn't have much respect for women. I still wonder what kind of women married him. Who would allow herself to be treated that way? I wonder if he really doesn't like women, but has to marry them to create a straight image. (Sorry Gay guys.) I wonder if he is so in-the-closet that he hates gay men because they are free from the closet. What was his opinion on Jeff Gannon?

10. On the other hand
Rush Limbaugh is, by any standard one of the top five most important conservative voices today. If you want to understand modern conservatism (and particularly eliminationist conservatism (where the goal is to, well, eliminate us)), you have to understand him.

16. Well, because arguments other conservatives are going to use
often show up first on his show. And because it's not enough for me to simply say "Conservatives are wrong" and move on - I like to be able to deliniate how they are wrong.

But i don't think what works for me works for everybody else; if you don't want to pay attention to Rush, don't. Pay attention to something that you find important or interesting.

You hit the nail right on the head: Conservatives lack empathy. That, IMO, is the major difference between them and liberals. They have no compassion or empathy!

8. This has been a direct effort of theirs for the last 20 years
They have tried to change the image of the conservative from the back office money grubber to the laughing life-is-wonderful-because-I-am-rich cigar smoking fatcat with the blonde trophy wife. They keep pushing it too.

Truth be told almost all of the Bush backers strike me as gay, down the line.

11. Everything has humor in it when you are effed up to the hilt on opiates...
...Rush's sense of humor is like watching a Cheech & Chong movie that you swore was funny in the 9th grade.

In other words, you either have a stunted, 13 year old or drug induced perception of humor, or you are normal.

Make a list of liberal comedians as opposed to conservative comedians. Let's see, their side would have…Dennis Miller…and…?

20. Every one on "Blue Collar Comedy"
Dennis Leary on occasion as well as Jimmy Fallon (who couldn't be less funny)...perhaps Carlos Mencia's anti-PC rants and even Collin Quinn.

There's also this horribly chowder head stupid twat I've seen on Collin Quinn's short lived show that had the worst stupid Boston accent that I've ever seen...damn she was not funny.

There is a damn good reason why there are more Left Wing commedians...it's called "wit"

15. I actually think
it is just the opposite. If oyu look at the view each group has on society. Conservative by and large think people are bad and have bad intentions and liberals by and large think people are good. They, if anyone lack any sense of humor.

19. My husband had never actually listened to any of his shows
So on Friday when I was riding with him at work and we couldn't get any decent radio stations I said hey, let's listen to Rush, you've never heard how really awful he is. We only caught the last half hour or so of it but during that short time he:

Ridiculed a black call-in
Refereed to Oprah Winfrey as "the" Oprah about 25 times or so.
Called Brown University "Tootsie Roll" University
Mocked Liberals for the crimes of being educated and sensitive at least 4 times
Claimed he does not attack people - ever

The seething pure hatred was palpable.

21. What a joke-liberals have no need to defend against a "charge" like this--
especially since it's not even true.

I feel it largely reflects "projection" of Repub qualities onto us.

I've known both liberals and Repubs (I don't use "conservative" in these times because people who support shrubco are NOT) who have good sense of humor, and those who are dour, angry and humorless. I definitely feel that there's more dour, humorless, angry people on THEIR side than ours, but I wouldn't claim a monopoly on humor or humorlessness for either side.

I also feel that the majority of Limbot type humor is based on meanspiritedness and hatred.

23. A verbally abusive person uses humor to make it seem as though
what he/she is saying is just harmless repartee. The recipient is just being overly sensitive. The language Limbaugh and those like him use is intended to beat us down, to demoralize us, and to create the impression that there is nothing we can do to win or succeed. This is abusive behavior at its most basic level. Gingrich, who was abusive to his wife, taught them well.
