A good song for us right now
Stand up, all victims of oppression,
For the tyrants fear your might!
Don't cling so hard to your possessions,
For you have nothing if you have no rights!
Let racist ignorance be ended,
For respect makes the empires fall!
Freedom is merely privilege extended,
Unless enjoyed by one and all.
So come brothers and sisters,
For the struggle carries on.
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song.
So comrades, come rally,
For this is the time and place!
The international ideal,
Unites the human race.

Let no one build walls to divide us,
Walls of hatred nor walls of stone.
Come greet the dawn and stand beside us,
We'll live together or we'll die alone.
In our world poisoned by exploitation,
Those who have taken, now they must give!
And end the vanity of nations,
We've but one Earth on which to live.
So come brothers and sisters,
For the struggle carries on.
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song.
So comrades, come rally,
For this is the time and place!
The international ideal,
Unites the human race.

And so begins the final drama,
In the streets and in the fields.
We stand unbowed before their armour,
We defy their guns and shields!
When we fight, provoked by their aggression,
Let us be inspired by like and love.
For though they offer us concessions,
Change will not come from above!

So come brothers and sisters,
For the struggle carries on.
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song.
So comrades, come rally,
For this is the time and place!
The international ideal,
Unites the human race.

Why isn't this the Dem anthem? For that matter, why aren't the Dems part of the Socialist Int'l like UK and Australian Labor?

2. The Internationale
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 11:09 PM by MrMonk
History (and variations on the lyrics):

http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/int/internationale.html

http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/mod/INTERNAT.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internationale

It's been sung in a number of situations that have little or no connection with the Paris Commune (where it originated) or with communism. On one notable occasion, it was sung by the students at Tienamen Square.

3. Like that one but I'm feeling like this one:
gotta admit,
I'm a little bit confused
sometimes it seems to me
as if I"m just being used
gotta stay awake gotta try and shake
off, this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground,
how can I find my way out of this maze
deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep pretending
that everyone's expendable, and no one has a real friend
and it seems to you the thing to do
would be to isolate the winner
everythings done under the sun
and you believe at heart everyone's a killer

who was born in a house full of pain
who was trained not to spit in the fan
who was told what to do by the man
who was broken by trained personell
who was fitted with collar and chain
who was given a pat on the back
who was breaking away from the pack
who was only a stranger at home
who was ground down in the end
who was found dead on the phone
who was dragged down by the stone....

sorry, just venting. Goodyear moved me from Montreal to Cincinatti and I've got a little pent up anti-corporate rage. The only consolation is my ex-countrymen have to deal with Harper now!!! I feel better, oh wait, I'm in Ohio....
