Reid to slam Bush in pre-emptive strike ahead of State of the Union

In a pre-emptive broadside on President Bush in advance of his State of the Union address, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will slash Bush's presidency and compare the array of festering ethics scandals in Congress to Watergate, RAW STORY has learned.

Reid will also lead Democratic efforts to remind voters of pledges made during Bush's four other State of the Union addresses. Roll Call reports that Democratic talking points will offer "a new direction instead of continuing to place his political interests above the nation's interest," and conclude that "it doesn't matter whether the president swaggers when he says it, but he needs to offer Americans a credible path to a stronger America."

The speech, sent to RAW STORY, is copied below.

7. It is the speech he gave on the Senate floor earlier today.

instead of talking about Alito and the need to filibuster.

He could have given the speech after the vote, but he took time alloted to the filibuster to say that.

Good speech, but wrong timing.

11. Is this the same Reid who voted for Bush's war and against the filibuster?
The one who is "pro-life"?

It's time to dump the pandering Dems like Harry.

12. how are senate democrats different than republicans?
ON every important issue (Alito, Bankruptcy, Iraq, Phone taps) they are exactly the same.

Reid can say all he wants, but until the Senate Democrats actually stand for something together, his talk is meaningless.
