Poll question: Do you support the DLC? NOT the DNC, but the DLC.
The DLC is the repuke-lite of the Democratic Party. Do you support them? Do you like the direction Al Frum and the DLCers have taken OUR party?

1. I voted no, but I support them on the sidelines
as the conservative arm of the party that gives the mainstream party advice on what may be progressing too quickly for conservative populations in various parts of the country. I don't want to purge them from the party, I just want them out of power. I think they can be very useful in the proper place.

In a position to lose us all 3 branches of government is NOT the proper place.

2. I can't support them at all
If the advice they give is to stay away from civil rights issues to get elected (because it's "too progressive"), then the advice they'll continue to give is to stay away from civil rights issues to stay in power.

And what that means in reality is democratic leaders being led by the nosering to support FMA's and constitutional amendments, and striking discrimination protections and hate crimes language from the public discourse.

Sorry. The answer is a strong no. There are better solutions than the DLC for what the DLC is supposed to be doing for us politically.

5. The DLC's only claim to legitimacy was their support of Clinton
and Clinton won because of Clinton, not because of the DLC.

6. Exactly
They only win elections when Bill Clinton is at the top of the ticket.

16. He won because of Perot.
in 2000 AL GORE seriously pissed of the DLC by throwing thier advice overboard and moving to the left, his polls ticked up. Now Al Gore is DLC enemy number one.

20. GOOD! Al Gore for President!
assholes. I wish he'd run. Then we could purge the DLC from our party.

22. Clinton would have won without Perot.
It's been proven again and again here at DU. I don't have the data though, but I used to think Perot split the vote, and I was thoroughly convinced by people here that wasn't the case.

23. That's RW BS, Perot was taking votes from Clinton, not Poppy.

That being said, Clinton won because he was Clinton - not DLC.

7. "Hell, No!" isn't strong enough...
We are where we are today largely because of the policies, advisors, corporate funding and corporate influence they have brought to this Party. They are Republicans without the balls to say so. Period.

What do I have to do to actively support the DLC?
What must a DINO do to get some respect around here anyways?

A simple Hell No was inadequate. The only thing worse than a neocon is a neocon enabler posing as a democrat.

14. There's a big problem with the DLC that makes them unusable
I am a moderate Democrat - as such I don't agree with a lot of what i see posted here, and if we lived in a saner society I would be on the other side of the fence. I'm not going to apoligize for that - certainly I'm united in opposing Bush and his extremist cronies.

The Democratic Leadership is purportedly a moderate Democrat group - what they really are is a Democrat sellout group. They don't push issues because they believe in them, the push them because they are politically advantageous.

I can respect Lieberman on some levels (although he makes that hard for me at times) as I think he genuinely is acting on what he believes. He's wrong, but he's doing it cause he believes it, not cause he thinks it's the way to make people like him. The DLC on the other hand, has struck me as an organization that cares about winning elections, not about principles.

15. Not know much about the DLC?
Check out this article:

http://www.prospect.org/print/V12/7/dreyfuss-r.html

It's a balanced article but it should still get your blood boiling. The DLC is evil.

You mean the MAJORITY of DUers don't like the DLC?:sarcasm: Blow me over!

24. Because they got that stranglehold on
in about 1995 or so, and they keep moving further and further to the right.
