The Dem's missed a major opportunity and leave it to
the business Channel to point this out...

Ron Insana, a very good reporter who actually does research and asks the tough questions, wonder why Senator Kent Conrad the ranking minority member on the Budget committee, and his colleagues didn't prepare an alternative budget to the one Bush produced today...

The only answer he had was that the GOP controls everything...

Well....

Your point senator.....

An opposition party that always react to what the majority party does, is doomed to stay forever in the minority...

Why didn't the Dem's produce an alternative budget...

That would have been a wonderful tool to use against the GOP in the fall...

Why didn't the Dem's produce an alternative budget....

Are they so timid and shell shocked that it never occurred to them to provide the American public with a clear alternative....

Why didn't the Dem's produce an alternative budget....

Are they frightened of the prospects of alienating potential donors....

Why didn't the Dem's produce an alternative budget....

It seems to me the GOP has done this in the past when they were in the minority....

So why didn't the Dem's produce an alternative budget....

2. Great post! Excellent point, . . . send it to DEAN, Howard that is.
Being an ex Republican, I have to say that the Dems seem to look a lot like chicken little. Maybe it is because many the analytical, money making, business/marketing oriented folks work for or are Repubs or visa versa if you please.

16. Tough?!? Well, that is a different issue
My point and I believe that WCGreen's is that Dems seem to spend all their energies reacting, rather than preparing, planning, and acting at the appropriate time. Chicken little wasn't a chicken, if he was he wouldn't have tried to warn everyone he would have ducked and hidden. Chicken little reacted without thinking or evaluating properly.

I have been up to my eyeballs in democratic politics and am again here in Ohio....

I am both part of the problem, cause I didn't speak loudly enough when I had the chance, and part of the frustrated public who wish to god they would just act like an opposition party....

On Edit...

I was also using Dem's as a tag for elected democrats....

30. Uhm, a hold over from a different thread I guess.
I was also reading about the DLC Head saying it is dangerous for dems. . . . and was commenting about the split personality of the democratic party. So I guess I am wondering myself if I am a dem or if the dlc is a dem. . . . Democrat seems to have a very fluid meaning these days and sometimes I AM one, and other times I want something better. . . but I am NOT a repub anymore no matter how I look at it, nor am I green, nor constitutional, maybe a bit libertarian sometimes. . . Okay?

I have an opinion and a concern and an agreement with WCGreen. I notice the you seem to type DEM or Democrat often as well, so calm down, you're sounding like a repub telling me I can't/shouldn't be vocal about my concerns and disagreements with the party. I call 'em as I see 'em, whether it pleases you or not.

3. Because the damn Democrats suck that is why! That is what you want all of
us to say and believe and feel until we are so demoralized that we do not go out and campaign or make any effort whatsoever to change things. So why should I spend hours trying to talk a group of national candidates into creating a message for America to win back the House when there is no point.

Thanks, you just made me want to give up.

20. I think you should stop expecting those in Congress to actually start
doing anything more they are. I talked to someone who had to deal with the Repuke Machine in 1994 and she said it was horrible. Everyone one of those members are targeted and they know it, so it makes them way more timid then you think.

That is why it has and will continue to take some time to get those currently in Congress to really act up.

I find it just as annoying to have to explain a million times why a unified message will help people get elected when no one seems to get it!!! argh!!!

Dems, for themost part, look at politics as a vocation....

GOP'ers, because they have a great support netowrk, view political office as an avocation...

52. If they are so afraid to take the bullet they shouldn't have volunteered
for the war. Make no mistake, this is a war and the stakes are higher than we imagine, so far only one side has shown up on the field.
Their re-election is not the objective! Changing the course of the country is all that matters and that will only be accomplished if they stand up and demand that the issues are addressed. Some will fall, for that is the way of war, and they did not hesitate to voted to send others to their deaths.
They are doing nothing (just like they did in the lead-up to the Great Depression) and will continue to do nothing as long as we let them.

of reacting. If you now feel like giving up, you must've been barely hold on in the first place. Try Harder, think better, DEMAND more acting and less reacting, don't give up.

Instead of telling me to stop feeling frustrated (or leave the party), how about letting me vent it harmlessly on here so I can get back to work trying to make life better by getting them elected rather then say something that would be rude to these people? Hmmm?

25. Too busy planning the next pointless attack
That's the only explanation I can think of. Every Democratic site I frequent is pathetically obsessed with anti-Bush rather than strategizing how to win in the future. Bush is basically irrelevant after February 2008 so I guess we have a two-year strategy. Brilliant. I've been emphasizing for at least 18 months now that we need to all but ignore the GOP and come up with our own proposals. The Republicans thrive on inspiring fear and hate among angry white men; we need to cultivate support amongst thoughtful but conflicted white women who abandoned us due to national security concerns. Anger and negativity does nothing for us among that block. It's the classic case of being so obsessed with your opponents' playbook you have no clue it doesn't fit your personnel or needs at all.

On one prominent site a lead columnist actually wrote this a month or so ago, "We do stand for something. We stand against Bush." The sad and devastating part: he wasn't kidding.
