Do any of you have a feel for how the undecideds might break on Tuesday. So far, in IA and NH, they've broken for Kerry over the 'electability' issue. The LA Times poll said about 1/3 of black voters in SC remain undecided. I am assuming they will remain that way until they go to vote on Tuesday. In that case does the Clyburn endorsement of Kerry become an important factor in the voting booth?

1. Charleston SC
Everyone is talking about Kerry winning but I see nothing of the sort. I haven't seen any signs for Kerry, no meeting groups for Kerry and very little advertising. I see Edwards, Clark and Dean signs and bumper sticker everywhere. I personally only know of one person who might vote either Kerry or Edwards but all the rest, 4 being active duty military, are voting Dean not Clark. The Clark people also have a great organization down here and since he's my number 2 pick thats fine. They contacted me because I'm a veteran. No one from any Kerry team has contacted me.

They say it's Edwards and then Kerry here. I don't know , maybe I don't hang out with the right people. Oh, another thing, I bet Republicans are voting down here also, its an open election so they can come in and create havoc. Who knows what they will do. We don't have parties on our voting cards, we have race instead. When I moved here from Florida I couldn't believe they did that.

2. I don't think the Republicans can do any real damage in SC
because I like all of our candidates

I admit I would like to see Edwards do well in SC just so he will stay in the race. Edwards is very good at attacking Bush and we need all the people attacking Bush that we can get.

3. My guess is...
if republicans wanted to cause some problems, they'd largely vote for Sharpton to show that the democratic party is so "extreme" or "out of touch". I remember hearing about that when sharpton first announced his candidacy.

8. If I were a Republican
I'd vote for Kerry or Dean.

I don't know how Repubs feel about their chances against Kerry, but if they feel safe against him, it's in their interest to see this nomination process wrapped up as quickly as possible so they can begin their negative onslaught. So they'd want to cement Kerry's lead and a surprise win in SC or a strong second finish might do just that.

If they really want to go against Dean instead, they would want to give him some momentum going into the next round of primaries and a better than expected showing in the south will defintely do the trick.

But I doubt there will be a large Republican show of force in SC.

7. No lie
Never seen anything like this in my life. I had voted in a few states. My daughters first election and I told her not to even pick a party because all they want is you race. Weird, huh?

In Chas. too, and I've only seen a few Kerry tv ads - no signs, bumper stickers, etc. Lots of Dean, Clark, Edwards stuff around.

As far as the open primary, that's true. I voted McCain in 2000 just to stop the last coronation. This year, my repub mom is going to the polls with me, and she's voting Dean.

on edit: woah, just re-read your post. I never even noticed that my voter registration card has race on it. Sex too (and dob and ss#). Maybe that's some type of ID tool, like on your driver's license?

9. Kerry is probably riding on a lot of silent support
based on momentum from Iowa and HN. But these are probably 'soft' votes. I'd like to see a poll out of SC with percentages of committed voters and also their second choices. That would paint a clearer picture of the distribution of support.
