6. It was AMAZING.
Steph was talking about Gillespie's recent "laundry list" on Kerry's national security votes. McAuliffe TOTALLY moved the conversation to *'s missing Guard service. Said that if the Republicans were going to attack the patriotism and service of Democrats then *'s record was fair game. Called him AWOL and said he played dress up on the Lincoln. Steph said, "So let me get this clear. Democrats intend to bring up the president's service record?" McAuliffe basically said - big time.

That is the real question here.

30. Oh, here's how the WH Press corpse will ask bush that question:
"President bush, the Democrats are asking reckless questions about your service in the Guard, impugning your integrity, insulting patriotic Americans, siding with the French and making fools of themselves in the process. How does your faith get you through these times?"

12. I saw it too -- couldn't believe it.
George Steph. was asking about the charges Ed Gillespie was bringing against John Kerry, saying that he had a record of being soft on defense. Terry McAuliffe said that they didn't need to be questioning Kerry's patriotism since Bush was AWOL from the Alabama National Guard for a year while Kerry earned a chest full of medals in Vietnam. McAuliffe said that negativity is the way Republicans campaign and even brought up Max Cleland as an example. I was impressed.

16. don't stop there Terry ...
back up strongly all our candidates, i.e., like those who speak up about the Media's lack of attention to certain of our candidates, not to mention to the issues facing our country;

Remember when the patriotism of Cynthia McKinney and Max Cleland were attacked in 2002?

We'll take what we can get ... Better late than never; please keep it up.

I know you know we grunts and armchair activists have contacted you over the last 3 years regarding a number of hot topics, looking for leadership (and, were disappointed in not seeing/getting it) ...

like these sample email messages to you:

1) the DNC being "polled" in Nov. 22 RE running Al Gore in 2004

Why did they participate?

Why is this coming out NOW when Al is making fresh appearances???

The newspaper contacted 312 of 388 DNC members. Why not the other 76?

etc.

Article:
Poll: Gore Should Not Run Again Party Insiders Say

November 17, 2002 02:24 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A poll of members of the Democratic Party's governing body showed on Sunday that nearly half think Al Gore should forgo another run for the U.S. presidency in 2004.

The Los Angeles Times poll of members of the Democratic National Committee showed significant support for a run by Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts as well as a dark-horse bids by Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

2) subject: Jeb Bush's record of correcting voting problems in FL after 2000

RE which, I emailed you saying:

"...i expect more from a Governor than "you are entitled to your own opinion. Have a nice day"

Dear Governor Jeb Bush:

Governor Bush, you had two (2) years to make sure voting equipment be in order; and, that polling sites be better administered with utmost integrity.

You have failed on all accounts.

3) my email RE enron and corporate abuses in August 2002

How many months now have transpired since Enron's news broke? What is Sen. Lieberman doing?

We're only at the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Please maintain direct email ability between your office and the people.

Using an embedded form doesn't provide us with the flexibility of sending the same comment to multiple members of Congress of both Houses.

20. Not much to lose with this strategy
What can Smirk actually say? The only way he can end the controversy is to present documents proving the charges are untrue. It's pretty obvious they have no such documents or they would certainly have presented them by now.

Just saw it - called Bush AWOL, recanted the whole scenario re: Alabama Senate race, not showing up for Guard duty, Daddy's connections re: TANG - the whole thing!!

Said ABSOLUTELY Bush's "wartime" record is fair game.

27. On Capitol Gang yesterday, Kate O'Beirne tried to slander
Kerry's anti-war testimony in the 70s. I almost fell over when Al Hunt immediately jumped on her and said she was distorting his testimony and taking it out of context. Finally, they are not nodding in agreement over right-wing distortions and half-truths. Even Robert Novak said that John Kerry was clearly a hero, and Bush had NO war record and nothing to brag on with regard to his service.

What I like about the issue is that it again gets at the image of Bush that people liked--that he could be trusted (weaseled out of his service) and that he was a regular guy (weaseled out because of his daddy's connections). Mr. Tough Guy is going to start calling to mind that line from Patton: In reference to his nickname, old blood and guts, a soldier says, yeah, his guts, our blood. Chickenhawk McFlightsuit. George aWol Bush. I wouldn't kiss the service-loving South off just yet.

26. Kerry was the "pre-emptive" nominee

Only once did TM say "if" Kerry is the nominee - all other times he used his name in conjunction with him being the nominee.

Still a good rant, though. :)

35. That was the best performance I've ever seen from Terry Mac. The best.
What a difference when he's confident of who the nominee will be.

They could never go after Bush's draft dodging while they thought Dean would be at the top of the ticket.

Now they have their juices flowing. Avenging Max Cleland...all the way.
