Roberts squashing NSA investigation should be the LAST STRAW
I honestly think the Democrats should walk out/shut down the congress just like the Repugs did under Clinton. They need to go to the public and say that they are doing this because they have become irrelevant under this leadership. The Repugs refuse to do their jobs and provide oversight and by staying...they are feeding into a charade that the gov't is working for the people.

Then they need to list ALL of the scandals that the Repugs refuse to investigate. The people will be GLAD! The media will go crazy, Fox's talking heads will have a field day...so what...the Dems will finally have a microphone for all of the abuses going on.

They should DEMAND equal power (subpoena and others) if the Repugs want to get back to business.

YEs this in unheard of, it's extreme and unprecedented but these times are all of the former also.

Time to take a stand.

The people will back them up.

1. They at least need to make some noise and reach out to the public.

2. I agree with you, but in case you haven't noticed..
the dems have rolled over on everything else, including the Patriot Act, the Alito Confirmation and so many other critical things.

one is compelled to conclude that the the dems want domestic spying legalized too. I don't see another message / signal in any of this..

but i'd be happy for someone to paint a different picture for me, just has to have some semblence of credibility.

8. I'm with you.
I would desperately love to be wrong about the dems but I'm horribly afraid I'm not.

10. I believe the Democratic Party is just a myth.
I've seen no evidence of their existence at all.

3. I have thought the same thing!
Why don't they just walk out. They never get to do anything anyway. They have absolutely no power whatsoever. Sometimes I wonder about the Democrats in the Congress and Senate. I think most of them are there just to make their money and get their perks and they could care less what the Bush Administration are doing. Sorry for the rant, but I have been quite disgusted with the little tidbits that we get from the Dems. Sometimes I wish someone would start another party with some power. It would be more competitive with three in my opinion.

4. After everything else, do you honestly believe they're going to
stand on principles this late in the game? I don't.

7. no I don't expect it really. But I do think they one day will be sorry
that they didn't. The people still think they can vote these bastards out. When the people realize (and they eventually will) that we no longer have a democracy and they will be stuck indefinitely with Bush and his crooks....there will be HELL to pay and they're going to make the Dems pay just as much as the Repukes.

6. It's easier for our "leaders" to go along and get along.
They think by not making waves, they'll get re-elected. They probably also think enough Kool-Aid drinkers support Bush that he will win anyway.

9. It's not over until it's over...
Yes, Roberts didn't even allow a vote in the Intell committee on the question because Rockefeller had the votes to push the inquiry forward. (And this is Democracy in Action?)

However, the Judiciary committee is still moving ahead with two more hearings. Let's call them, fill up the voice mail this weekend and run the fax machines out of paper with a simple demand for a BROAD and PUBLIC investigation into NSA spying on Americans.

http://judiciary.senate.gov/members.cfm has the members of the Senate Judiciary listed with contact links.

14. It's so much easier to sit back and just deny Repub attacks.
Fight them on their own turf, that's what I always say.
It's so much nicer than messing up your own turf.

17. Yeah, like THAT'LL ever happen!
We shall see.

I'm waiting to see if they want my vote next time around.

By they way they are acting, I don't think so - they're more interested in "keeping their powder dry" and "wooing the (non-existant) center" while doing everything they can to upset their base - US.

20. Dunno..
It might just give Dems the veiw of, "Just causing trouble."

Though, don't get me wrong, we should.

I'm just afraid that's how people will look at that.
