Is this thing w/ Specter's aide retaliatory?
I've been gone all weekend, so this has probably already come up, but did Rove threaten Specter, Specter decided to stand his ground, so Rove tossed the press some dirt he had on Specter (or his aide?) I mean, this seems like a play right out of Rove's book.

14. threads scroll off quickly here.
its not the fault of people like me who don't happen to be online at DU 24 hours a day.
I've stopped watching news, but depend on DU for most of my information. This highlights a flaw in that approach, but even so, no local papers or news media where I live carried this story.

I'm glad there are people who DO spend more time here who can enlighten us no-nothing horses once in a while, and do it graciously, without making us feel like jackasses for asking a simple question.

yes, that was sarcasm.

In the future, MAYBE it would BEHOOVE people that start referential threads like this one, to ACTUALLY put in the OP the information to begin with. All it would have taken is to add : you know, where Specter had to report connections between staffer and lobbyist.

I, for one, try to include a source when I start a thread, or at least a brief summary of what I'm talking about. Simple courtesy, I feel.

11. Interesting. I wonder who fed USA Today this info, and could
this have any bearing on how Specter's been acting and voting lately?

9. how does one spell "duh?"
Any power play that happens can be blamed on him. The democrats wimply cannot even tie their shoes anymore, much less out a criminal or unethical activity. Oh, I may have meant to say simply. maybe.

19. My biggest fear is not that they will try to screw with the constitution
to preserve their power base "In a time of terrorism and national emergency", but that because of four other factors

a) The Supreme Court Make-Over is just about complete. I believe that we now face a rubber-stamp group of Bushista supporters.
b) The leadership, civilian and military, within the DOD has been totally emasculated, altered, changed, smashed and replaced with sycophants and boot-lickers who think that torture is legal, the Constitution is quaint and that in order to save our country, they can trash our freedoms.
c) The manner in which religious bigots have managed to take over the Air Force Academy and has been allowed access to brainwash the youngest, most pliable minds in the American military, suggests that they may follow their god, and not their duty to country, should the choice arise.
d) Eisenhower's military-industrial complex has grown more powerful and insidious. By controlling much of the media, by taking over entire sectors of our day-to-day living, they have positioned themselves to suck at the federal teat like no other group in the world's history. Not even warring city-states like Troy and its competitors allowed businesses to own and control so much of their own purse-strings or decision making. Ike was right, just premature.

All of this suggests ill times for your average american. Not to worry, though. With new domestic spying, the chances of an organized dissenting group succeeding and supporting the constitution grow dimmer each day.
