Arizona Democrats Check In!
No matter which candidate you support, let's take pride in participating in an early primary, before the nominee is actually decided!

This November, I want to help return Arizona to the Democratic column, like it was in 1996! :toast:

I am voting for Dennis Kucinich on Tuesday, February 3. It has been a privilege lending my support to the northern Arizona campaign. I will continue to work for him no matter what the results are come Tuesday.

:kick:

5. here
Already voted absentee, for Dean.

I do have a question for Arizona Democrats - what's your take on the U.S. Senate race? I am not a big fan of John McCain at all and find it mystifying why so many Democrats like him.

7. he is a Republican party man in the end
I agree with you. I think what Democrats find appealing is that he speaks his mind sometimes against a few party norms, and that he took on Bush (and the Religious Right) in the 2000 campaign. Democrats are also encouraged at McCain's call for an investigation into intelligence failures regarding Iraq and elsewhere.

But strip away the romantic hopefulness that he is another Jim Jeffords, and you will see that he is a faithful party man in the end.

Evidence:

He says he will support Bush's 2004 bid.

He is anti-choice, despite his other differences with the religious wing of the party.

He wants MORE troops in Iraq, which is shameful, since he was a POW in Vietnam and should know better. I respect his service, as I do all veterans, but I part company after that.

His only redeeming quality is that he is not John Kyl, our other senator and much more of an orthodox Republican.

Still, I would rather have a real Democrat in the Senate, and get McCain out.

12. Well, that's the thing with McCain
He's not another Jim Jeffords, and he's not even another Arlen Specter. His voting records from liberal groups all are around 15% - compared with scores in the 40-50% range for Arlen Specter, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and Jim Jeffords.

Jon Kyl actually has a better record from the ACLU than McCain does.

The McCain Myth doesn't impress me in the least. All he's doing is throwing out a few bones to liberals on one or two issues, probably in preparation for a second run at the White House.

28. I agree with McCain. He campaigned for dimwit in N.H. After bush hurt
his wife and daughter, he still lies that bush is best.
I guess in the end money is what means something to
McCain.

9. Will be voting for Dean on Tues
As to your question about the Senate race:

I have not heard a peep as to any potential Dem challengers to McCain and I wrote to the State Dems last week to pester them about that. I was disgusted in '00 when Kyl ran totally unopposed. AZ Dems had better not let McCain run unopposed. And JD Hayworth - we've got to get rid of Hayworth - it should be so easy, even in this pug state - he's such a buffoon. Who will be running against Hayworth?

14. Here's who we've got right now
Benjamin Jankowski: www.geocities.com/benjaminjankowski/
Liz Michael: www.lizmichael.org

I really doubt the state Democratic Party would support either candidate, but they should, whichever one of them wins the primary. The alternative is John McCain.

There's *nobody* running against Hayworth right now. Somebody needs to. He's the second biggest right-wing extremist idiot in the entire AZ delegation, next to Trent Franks.

17. Thanks, Idoolin
Checked 'em out. I'm not impressed.

The Dem is going to win the Presidential vote in AZ in Nov, whichever of our guys is the nominee, and he's going to have coat tails. Hope some really good Dem challengers to McCain, Hayworth and Franks etal surface in time to be in position to ride those tails, so we can do our part to take back the House and Senate.

8. did you like Mo Udall?
I am a new Arizonan, and was only a child when Carter ran, but were you supportive of Udall's early bid for the presidency before Carter took off? I admire Carter, btw, but always considered Mo Udall the greatest Democrat Arizona ever produced.

20. I loved Mo -
I worked for him on Capital Hill and took a semester off from college to work as a county coordinator for him in NH, MA and NY. I was just cleaning my garage and found all my "Me for Mo" buttons.

A few weeks ago I was behind a rusty old beat up pickup truck with an Udall sticker, faded and peeling. I sure would have liked to talked to the driver.

23. I spent many summers in Flag
My mom was in grad school at NAU. Beautiful part of the state!

Mo was awesome. I will never forget the NH primary in 76, we had lost my precinct by 6 lousy votes, I had been up for 48 hours living on doughnuts and coffee. When the votes came in and Carter was declared the winner, I broke down and started crying. Mo saw me from across the room and came over to hug me and to thank me for my hard work. He was a real class act. I still have the handwritten letter he wrote to each of his New Hampshire staff members.

13. Clark voter here.
finally made up my mind. Lets hope this race brings out all the Dem voters. Are we not inspired? Lets put AZ in the winners column this year! Clinton did it in'96,there is no reason ABB can't do it this year.

Delicious was'92 when Sam Coppersmith was my rep. in the first district. Sweet dreams are made of this. Go! Dems Go!!!

As for DK,I was in Cleveland when he:
Rattled the windows,Kicked in the doors of the high and mighty and their usual whores.
Its Sunday,I could change my mind.
