S.D. Governor will sign anti-abortion bill in the next few days
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 07:55 PM by IsItJustMe
CNN Wolf Blizer Situation Room just reported that the Governor of South Dakota will sign the Anti-Abortion bill within the next couple of days.

The Governor is current allowing state lawyers to overlook the bill to make sure there is no technicalities in it. This way, when protested, the bill will go directly to the United States Supreme Court.

2. What are the people of SD saying?
Is this what they want their governor to do?

Lot of applause for him? Public pride?

3. What kind of "technicalities" could there be?
Oh, wait. Maybe they should take out that exception about saving the life of the mother.

5. Some "pro-life" groups are upset that it's way, way too fast track
Americans need to be shocked by how "resourceful" the "pro-life" groups are and how they have taken over the Repug party. So-called "pro-life" groups are upset that the law jumps a good ten years ahead of schedule where they can reap many millions in fundraising from incremental chiseling away at Roe v. Wade.

This SD law makes it so that even rape and incest are not good enough reasons for an abortion. I could see some very eery political ads to use in the 2006 election cycle to further pounce on the Repugs.

This is war, pure and simple.

6. The United States is controlled by extremists who care little about
civil rights or the rights of women. Religious zealots with close ties to the government have called for the assassination of foreign leaders. Unprovoked, it invaded and occupied another nation. It is closely allied with a number of brutal dictators, including Islam Karimov in Uzbekistan who delights in boiling people alive. It too has recently engaged in vicious torture as evidenced by photos from Abu Ghraib. Spearheaded by an unstable powerhunger warmonger George Walker Bush, the United States is dangerous.

So I ask you all: isn't the UAE jeopardizing its security by allowing U.S. naval ships to dock at its ports? How callous can the sheikhs be to sell their nation out to the highest bidder like this?

8. Maybe I'm too optomistic...
but I think this bill may be a form of shooting themselves in the foot for South Dakota, something similar to the Terri Schaivo fiasco.

The Schaivo fiasco showed how the Right (as well as many moderates and liberals) has bought it's own rhetoric about how this nation as a whole has taken a hard turn right toward Conservative, "traditional" values, yada yada yada. South Dakota may find itself with a backlash on it's hands when people start having to live with the state making reproductive choices for them, and the Governor and the legislators who signed this bill may pay the price with their jobs.

At least that's what I hope will happen.
