GOPer Dick Morris sees Hillary winning '08
http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/030106.html

With cultural forces behind her, Hillary can win in '08. The Republican Party appears to be coalescing around the happy assumption that, while Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nomination, she cannot be elected. So, the self-delusive logic says, she is really God's gift to the Republican Party.

<cut>

It has always been Mrs. Clinton's strategery to wrap herself in the generic. By embracing a set of liberal issues, she avoids personal scrutiny. By identifying with working women who are "trying to balance career and family", she buys a pass on charges of a conflict of interest over Rose Law Firm representation of Arkansas while her husband was governor. And now, by hiding behind the generic question of "Are we ready for a woman president?" she invites the question of whether we want this particular woman in the Oval Office.

The cultural forces that Hillary's candidacy will unleash - from the media, from Hollywood and from the cultural icons who decree our lifestyles - will be far beyond those that normally line up behind a presidential candidate. A small foretaste emerged in ABC TV's show "Commander in Chief," in which Geena Davis plays a female president who masters the men and the crises that litter her path. What other presidential candidacy was foreshadowed by a prime-time, hour-long weekly television show?

Hillary's candidacy will not be Democratic so much as demographic and not nearly as political as it will be cultural. The pent-up emotions of half of America will rise to the surface just as Catholics rallied to JFK's candidacy in 1960. And white women are the swing vote in our politics. George W. Bush carried them by only 1 percent in 2000 and lost the popular vote. He walked away with white women in 2004 by a 14-point margin and carried the electorate by 3.5 points.

White men will vote against Hillary, of course, but are they likely to exceed the 2-1 margin by which they backed Bush in 2004? Or is the GOP organization really going to be able to turn out more than 62 million voters, an increase of 12 million over its 2000 total with very little increase in national population?

<cut>
In the face of these demographic arguments, can Hillary's admittedly brittle public performances assure her defeat? Will voters see through her posture of moderation and hawkishness on terrorism? White men will. But white women won't. And Hillary will be elected.

<cut>

Do not underestimate Hillary Clinton's chances to win!

wrong about Hillary now?

37. Because almost everything he has said about her politically has been dead
wrong. He said she'd never get elected to the Senate. Once elected he said she'd be too divisive and would never be very popular in upstate New York -- he was wrong. The Piro thing was dead wrong too. His political antennae is just way off when he talks about her.

2. The thing about Dick Morris is EVERYTHING he says the OPPOSITE
Happens. If Dick Morris said the sea was blue, then I'd think that the sea was orange. Dick Morris' opinions aren't worth jackshit.

He's also completely obsessed with Senator Clinton, which is terribly disturbing....I mean, did he hit on her and she knocked him back or something?

11. You don't seriously think it's anything other than speculation?
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 02:02 AM by AtomicKitten
Like I said, it's nothing, it's TV infotainment. Trying to attach a meaning to speculation, whether done by Republicans or Democrats, is self-serving.

Partisans of various persuasions use it as a platform to launch their personal agenda, not unlike you using it to convey and perhaps convince others that the GOP really wants Hillary to run.

Let me guess, you don't like her. * insert sarcasm here *

It's a lame attempt at manipulation by all concerned.

17. thanks for the personal attack
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 09:13 AM by Lerkfish
now, lets actually discuss it like adults, shall we?

If the republicans, including Rove, of whom Clinton says he is obsessed with her, continually bring up one candidate in a favorable light, do you honestly think there is nothing behind it? Do you honestly believe Rove does not plan what and how he brings up issues? Have you ever actually heard of republican talking points?

to claim that there is NO significance to every single republican repeating the Clinton as candidate meme, then you are being intentionally naive to manipulate others in accordance with your own agenda.

next time, bucko, keep your personal attacks out of this, eh?

21. I'm sorry you perceived the explanation you sought as a personal attack.
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 10:50 AM by AtomicKitten
You responded with sarcasm (adult ?) to my post, so I elaborated.

Don't confuse a personal attack for what was simply a valid oppositional point to your post.

On edit: Dick Morris has been all over the map regarding Hillary depending on what day of the week it is, but more reliably trashes all things Clinton (much like the gratuitous Hillary-bashing here at DU). His "opinion" changes as often as the direction of the wind depending on what Faux News point/counterpoint he is being used for, tool that he is. Hardly a source to give even a second thought. All else is Republican chatter.

Maybe you could pool your resources to work against Hillary Clinton (D,NY).

I've got another idea. Instead of posting drivel that comes from Dick Morris to launch your anti-Hillary agenda, why don't you find a Democratic candidate you support and work to help him/her win the primary?

It is so awesome that Democrats are attacked from within their own party. I'm sure the Republicans are grateful.

However, if it makes you feel better and allows you to not address the substance of the issue, have at. I certainly wouldn't dream of interfering with your process of denial.

Please feel free to have the last word; it seems very important to you.

18. Hot air
This is the same Dick Morris who last week was predicting a comeback for Al Gore, and noticing how Al Gore would probably have a good chance of winning the nomination - especially seeing as how Hillary has been supporting the Iraq war.

It must be hard coming up with a weekly column. That's why he has to keep recycling his old "Condi vs Hillary" idea.

To be fair - I can see Hillary does have some of the attributes you need to be a good candidate.

But if Al Gore is ready to run again, then I hope most Democrats will support him.

19. we need a MAJOR change in this party...since THEY f'd Al G., she just may
be the woman for the job! I'd prefer a killer black woman, off death row for spousal homicide, but I can't hold Hillary's lawful lifestyle against her, or her genetics.
This joint needs more aggresive attitudes, from those who were screwed by the Repuke Fascists in power now. She was for the Iraq Slaughter, but MOST OF DU'ers and their Dem reps annoited this government by not overthrowing it. Polite is not going to get it in 2006 or 2008.

how the GOP presented GWB as some folksy, kind, cowboy moderate? And then he turned into Lucifer incarnate once he stole office???

Moderate is the way to go in pRezidential elections. But then, once in power, Hillary will restore abortion rights, gay rights, a social net for the poor and marginalized, all those kinds of nice things.

Give the lady a chance. She's electable. Everyone outside of the Democratic Party loves her (exc. for a few diehard ReTHUGS). We CAN have America back. Through HER I maintain
