Poll question: If Cheney retires after '06, who would Bush choose to replace him?
The big divide is whether he would choose someone who could succeed him or just pull a Dan Quayle like his dad did in '88 and pick someone with no chance of moving up.

parties.

He is as Republican as McCain with half the brains and none of what little charisma that McCain has.

38. I agree....it'll be Lieberman.
So, if Bush is impeached or has to resign Holy Joe(D) will be the incumbent.

13. They own the machines that count the votes, they own the media that
won't report their corruption, they don't care what we think, so there is really nothing stopping them from making such a blatant move.

30. FYI : In the mid 70's (1974 , I think it was)
Congress passed a law that said a blood and/or married relative of a President can't be Vice President or a Cabinet Secetary. Thus Jeb is ineligible.

32. Can convicted felons be vice president?
Both of them are. Of course, Liddy got worse press than Ollie did.

As much as I loathe the politics of Oliver North, I will defend him on his actual "crime". He was a soldier taking orders from the commander in chief. The commander in chief at the time should have been up on criminal charges for ordering him to engage in such behavior.

15. if cheney retires, his replacement will be a non-candidate
First, its a big if. I've got $25 for DU that says Cheney doesn't retire.

But assuming I'm wrong, anyone named by chimpy to replace him has to be confirmed by a majority in the House and Senate. Both of those bodies, in all likelihood, will be more closely divided between repubs and Democrats (indeed, in a perfect world, one or both will have Democratic majorities). There are several repub and Democratic senators with presidential ambitions (Frist, Allen, McCain, Hagel, Kerry(?), Bayh). As a result, there will be considerable pressure on chimpy (particularly if he is still has a below 40 percent approval rating) to pick someone who disavows any intention of running for president.

Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 12:40 PM by iconoclastNYC
They brought home the bacon to the big supporters and they calls the shots.

MCCAIN is the biggest and only threat to the BUSH MACHINE and they'll deal with him the way they dealt with him in the 2000 primary.

George Allen is the pick.

23. the bush machine won't own jackshit after 2006
It will be every man for himself. Frist isn't going to roll over, nor is Hagel, nor is McCain. And they will have a support within the Senate. The fundies love Frist more than Allen and they aren't going to let it go. And the Democrats will also put the pressure on for any vp replacement to disavow presidential ambitions.

Bet on it.

Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 01:06 PM by iconoclastNYC
And they win in any power struggle. The NEOCONS will back the BUSH pick too. You give the fundies too much power. They just get used by the CORPCONS and the NEOCONS for GOTV and such.

FRIST is Bush's bitch and Hagel. Hagel who? MCCAIN is the only real threat to whomever the BUSH machine wants elected, and they'll deal with him with a fresh Swiftboating. The plans are all drawn up, I bet.

If all else fails they can fall back on election fraud in the primary.
