Clark Stresses His Military Credentials-Introduces man who saved his life
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=7&u=/ap/20040201/ap_on_el_pr/clark

<snip>The retired Army general was introduced to supporters by Mike McClintic, who pushed Clark to the ground and protected him after Clark was shot during a mission in the jungles of Vietnam in 1970. McClintic was a 22-year-old Army private.

Clark, a 25-year-old infantry company commander at the time, had not seen McClintic since that day.

With McClintic by his side, Clark recalled the firefight.

"I heard this buzzing and my rifle fell out of my hand. I looked down to pick up my rifle and saw a piece of bone sticking out of my hand," Clark said. "I remember saying to Mike, I said, 'My God, I've been shot.' What I remember him saying to me is, 'Well, get down!'"

Shaking McClintic's hand at the rally, Clark said, "Mike, you saved my life."

16. We're going to take IL next then!
Also:

SuperFan1: OK--so what do you think about Clark, Ditka, and Da Bears, blindfolded and tied together with a rope of polish sausage in an election against against all of the Republicans in Congress?

SuperFan2: Republicans 8, Clark, Ditka, and Da Bears 92!

(lame attempt at humor)

12. What? Clark was a Lieutenant in Vietnam TOO?
I thought Kerry was the Lieutenant in 'nam.

Maybe Clark DOES have more military experience than Kerry, after all.

19. Actually He Was A Captain With The Big Red 1
From his Silver Star citation:

"As the friendly force maneuvered through the treacherous region, it was suddenly subjected to an intense small arms fire from a well-concealed insurgent element. Although painfully wounded in the initial volley, Captain Clark immediately directed his men on a counter-assault of the enemy positions. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Captain Clark remained with his unit until the reactionary force arrived and the situation was well in hand. His courageous initiative and exemplary professionalism significantly contributed to the successful outcome of the engagement. Captain Clark's unquestionable valor in close combat against a hostile force is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army."

Leadership under fire. Sounds like pretty good qualifications for a President to me.

17. Quote
"When Wesley Clark was our commanding officer, there was never any question about who was in command, who was the leader, who was responsible, who had the courage and determination to take us where we needed to go," McClintic said."

"The Wesley Clark I see running for President possesses the same kind of courage and leadership that I saw in Captain Clark the day we were ambushed in Vietnam. There is no question in my mind that Wes Clark posses the leadership that America needs to address the many domestic and international challenges that are facing us," McClintic said. "I was proud to serve under Wesley Clark when I was in the Army and I am proud to support his candidacy for President. I look forward to working for Wesley Clark once again."

18. A wonderful story!
Just imagine a GE campaign where the General is talking about his battle wounds and the brave soldiers he fought with, while all AWOL can bring to mind is how he was sipping margueritas with some local chiquitas when he was supposed to be guarding the Texas skies! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:

21. Sort of funny...
Kerry has people whose lives HE saved.

Clark has people who saved him.

Perhaps less politically important.

Bush didn't when he had the chance. And that is what counts.

28. The Albanian-Americans
They're really cool about how they show support. Just about any state where Albanians are living and they hear he is coming through, they come running. They meet him at airports, even. It's very touching.
