White House wants U.S. partner in ports deal

BY THOMAS M. DEFRANK AND KENNETH R. BAZINETNEW YORK DAILY NEWSWASHINGTON - The White House is quietly pushing a Dubai company to "significantly restructure" and partner up with a U.S. outfit to keep the port deal from sinking, sources told the New York Daily News on Friday.

"It's in the hands of the company now.... They're going to have to significantly restructure," said a Republican source familiar with White House expectations.

A revamped deal to allow Dubai Ports World to take over six major U.S. ports would have to be something along the lines of the Marine One contract.
British- and Italian-owned AgustaWestland had to take on Maryland-based Lockheed Martin to win the contract to build the president's helicopter last year.

"A lot of people are talking about this, a subsidiary or a deal like that," a congressional source confirmed.

One snag to such a deal may be that sources say the U.S. company best equipped to partner with DP World is Halliburton, once led by Vice President Dick Cheney.

34. Someone has been PAYING for the Ports Deal to be spun in a

way to benefit the rep. congress politically and put a boat-load of money
and control in the hands of the NeoCon F**ers who were pissed that the
original deal left them out.

one scene in F911 where Moore is showing these older ladies talking about Haliburton and one lady mentions how they get all the contracts because nobody else can bid on them. They're all done privatley. This is why it's always Haliburton. And in return Cheney is making a butt load of money.

Lets see - we've been told all along that this was a real estate lease transaction - so the only company capable of being a landlord in the US is Halliburton?

We've been told all week that the company wouldn't be involved with security. They don't actually load /unload the boats. In fact, to listen to some of the talking heads - DP gets paid to push paper around and keep track of cargo shipments. Hell, that's basic accounting stuff - but only Halliburton is qualified?

Lou Dobbs has been all over the ports deal, I doubt he could read the report from the teleprompter with a straight face. How stupid do they think we are?

So, what has been accomplished?

Total media meltdown of any other coverage (Plame emails 'found' by Cheney's office, NSA illegal wiretapping, Katrina failures hearings and reports) while this story was front and center.
House and Senate Repugs got to 'go against' the White House - propping up their chances for re-election
Cheney/Halliburton comes out on top in the Billion $$ category
Carlysle Group (BFEE) profits from the deal
Shrub looks good to his base again - in fact, the loyal cult will soon "know" the real story was the way Clenis and the liberal media set this whole thing up to make Shrub look bad.

almost sarcastically, "Oh, it will have to be Halliburton" (thinking that there is no f*cking way that they could be that obvious and corrupt) and then when sure enough I saw the name.....I shouted:

This Dubai port deal was a gimmick to get Halliburton in. It's what they did with Harriet Myers, the very same strategy: get in someone so bad and so unpopular, that people will protest, then take whatever unpopular alternative you present them (Alito, Halliburton), which in comparison may not be that horribly bad.
