DeLaying Victory in Texas
Only weeks ago, polls in his district indicated that Delay would lose to an unnamed Democratic challenger by over 15 percentage points, and yet he had no trouble garnering 62% of the vote in the Republican primary yesterday -- edging out all three challengers and avoiding a run-off.

Maybe we should take a cold hard look at how that happened? Just another bizarre unexplainable disconnect from the polls . . . move along now, nothing to see here.

This odd circumstance only has to happen one more time for him to be successfully re-elected, and we're in denial if we think he's going to play fair, since his party is guarding the henhouse and telling us how many chickens are inside.

1. What happened?
Democrats went out and voted for DeLay in the open primary just to make sure he won.

I can't understand why this is being overlooked by the media.

6. I would have been happier if he had lost the primary.
Just so he would go away, never to be heard from again until sentencing!

7. If DeLay lost in the primary
The Democrats would have surely lost in the general election.

At least now there's a chance.

Keep your eye on the prize, the taking back of the House.

11. I see your point, but i'm concern about a rigged elections.
That would allow DeLay to return to Washington. If he had lost the primary, then he would have been out of the picture for good.

2. What happened was extremely low voter turnout
Disaffected republicans simply didnt bother voting. The hard core freeper types would support Delay if he was foudn to be eating children in his basement.

9. Primary turnout in Texas is historically low
Wait till November. It's a good thing the cockroack won yesterday.

4. it varies by district
I would guess they used optical readers - they only program the machines for the general election.

But I'm not so sure the vote tally is purely bipartisan. On the other hand it does make sense that lower voter turnout only turned out his supporters.

Turnout in Texas sucked! Utterly shameful.

8. Perhaps the Friedman and Strayhorn petitions kept people home
If you voted in the primary, you cannot sign their petitions to get on the ballot.

10. yikes - on the other hand
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 10:24 AM by sui generis
of the six or so of us who did vote in texas, somebody managed to give us Chris Bell as gubernatorial candidate, so we might as well have written in Strayhorn or Kinky.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but it seems that one of the things texans place above all else, above no child left behind, above terrists, above social justice, above abortion even, and evil gay married cowboys, is a full head of hair, and strayhorn has more hair than bell.

:P

There really isn't much of a difference between her and Perry anyway. Both are willing to lie, steal and cheat to get into office and to stay in office, they both "hate fags", and neither has a penis.

I'm guessing they'll just keep the status quo.

edited for slightly less color
