Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low

Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low

By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer

WASHINGTON - More and more people, particularly Republicans, disapprove of President Bush's performance, question his character and no longer consider him a strong leader against terrorism, according to an AP-Ipsos poll documenting one of the bleakest points of his presidency.

Nearly four out of five Americans, including 70 percent of Republicans, believe civil war will break out in Iraq — the bloody hot spot upon which Bush has staked his presidency. Nearly 70 percent of people say the U.S. is on the wrong track, a 6-point jump since February.

"I'm not happy with how things are going," said Margaret Campanelli, a retiree in Norwich, Conn., who said she tends to vote Republican. "I'm particularly not happy with Iraq, not happy with how things worked with Hurricane Katrina."

Republican Party leaders said the survey explains why GOP lawmakers are rushing to distance themselves from Bush on a range of issues — port security, immigration, spending, warrantless eavesdropping and trade, for example.

2. w/ 3yrs to go,they can still rip the planet to shreds through policy edict
Logging, mining, and draining of wetlands cannot be undone once it happens.

The 37% approval rating is good news, though. I suppose we could scare gop congress members to legislate to undo the administration's policies. They have to be fearing for keeping their offices.

3. The GOP and this administration may not govern by polls but...
...they certainly do campaign by them and they campaign constantly, so the effect is the same.

I've also noticed that in these most recent articles about the president's falling approval ratings, his actual rating is buried deeply. The last article I read focused on the 'strongly disapprove' numbers almost to the exclusion of the actual disapproval/approval ones. I recognize that those 'strongly disapprove' numbers were striking but trends are perceived by using similar numbers over time so the numbers used last month and the one before should be used, or focused upon, this month as well.

4. 70 % disapproval!
So the last 30% are the most self centered, ego driven neocons left on earth? Not bad, he has almost outed himself to everyone now.

6. Actually,
I think that 10% of that last 30% say they approve just to spite us; not because of their approval of Bush.

7. Ahhh, that good ol' Buyer Remorse
Only NOW they're waking up? I guess better late than never, but still, when I think of all the people who have died (Iraq, Katrina, etc.), it makes me want to personally smack every Bush voter upside the head a couple hundred times.
