Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 04:25 PM by KoKo01
(Sheesh....is this another Dukester scandal in the making? He buys the house in October for $950,000 at about the same time he starts scamming Target and Hechts? And, how are these "Covenant Life Members" affording to live in a neighborhood with Million dollar houses? Why would they decide to move into the same neighborhood at the same time?)

Former White House Aide Is Arrested on Theft Charges
by John Files and Robert Pear

Within a few days of the incident, Mr. McClellan said, Mr. Allen told Mr. Card and Ms. Miers that he was thinking of leaving the White House to spend time with his family. But Mr. Allen decided to stay for a while because he was working on domestic initiatives for the State of the Union address, which Mr. Bush delivered on Jan. 31.

William A. Pierce, a former spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services, said he was "stunned, absolutely stunned" to hear of the arrest.

"I think a great deal of Claude," Mr. Pierce said. "He served ably as deputy secretary. He was, in effect, the chief operating officer of the department. He made sure that the machinery of the agency worked well. Many regulations came through him."

A neighbor reached by phone on Friday night said that Mr. Allen belonged to the Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Md., and moved into the neighborhood along with several other members of the church. County records show that Mr. Allen bought his home in October 2005 for $958,300, along with his wife, Jannese.

1. Probably had a trust fund
A lot of these old money families benefitted from the estate tax reform. No need to pay their fair share so the next generation can spending time not working, just scamming through life.

3. The Church Pastors (16 of them) are all male
A vary strange situation for Claude Allen. He just got lost somewhere along the way.

I don't get these sects. Some are clearly not main stream America; some a little scary.

I can't imagine he thought he would pay his mortgage with refund fraud.

9. Only $5,000 supposedly....but who knows where else he stole from and
didn't get caught. How long has this been going on that was maybe hushed up because folks knew who he was and were afraid to call it to the attention of the authorities.

Sounds to me like he was "gameing" to have a little fun just to see if he could get away with it...or could be the guilt of his actions burned a hole in his soul and he was acting out. How many of these religious nuts end up with prostitutes or doing things that are illegal or immoral because they loath themselves inside.

16. In the DC area you can - especially if you have good credit and a large
and downpayment.

Since we don't know what he sold his previous house for or how much his wife makes, we can't really judge.

I don't believe this is a case of corruption. I think the guy is sick. It's really very sad.

Church people moved into the neighborhood at the same time... That's what is so odd. Why did these church people decide to move together an into such an expensive neighborhood? I suppose its possible that the Allen's house was the biggest and best in the neighborhood but usually those kind of neighborhoods are "gated" and the houses are in the same price range..

Did the Church give them the money? Or, did they sell a house and trade up? I'm remember the Santorum scandal. His wife home schools and he bought this place in Virginia for over a MIL and had to get a loan from a special Private Bank...which he didn't qualify for. It's a scandal for Santorum. So...maybe there's something there with the Allens, too.

10. Funny....but maybe this is innocent. His wife might have a trust fund or
a cushy DC Lobbyist job making big bucks. It's still odd that these church members all bought at the same time, though. Sounds like a cult that moves into a neighborhood...like Ave Maria in Florida that the Domino's Pizza king is creating.

Could be innocent...but it's worth putting questions out there. The Right Wingers would do it to us..

Bush aide denies exit tied to chaplain issue

"They don't take kindly to someone serving too strongly the evangelical cause," Mr. Cizik said. "The people in the White House want someone who will salute, no matter what. If you are an evangelical, you get special scrutiny. They know evangelicals are obedient to a higher principle."
A known opponent of abortion, Mr. Allen and his wife, Jannese, home-school their four children. He is also on the board of the Billings, Mont.-based Peacemaker Ministries, which steers Christians toward "mediation" instead of lawsuits.
Mr. Allen said that despite citing his family for his departure -- a common euphemism in Washington politics -- he really is returning to being a father first.
"I guess if there was a regret, it's that I'm a husband and a father, and my wife and children have sacrificed for me to enjoy what I love coming to work to do," Mr. Allen said.
"So now it's my time to sacrifice for them and to be a husband and father and someone who actually lives out what I've talked about for the past 10 years: strong communities, strong families, strong marriages, and fatherhood. That's what I've worked for, and that's what I have to follow through on and live out."

Mr. Baker must be the world's worst judge of character, or . . .

And Claude Allen is a hou--oops, I almost forgot: It's not "appropriate" to call Allen what he is.
