W&L's convention has predicted the presidential nominee 17 out of 22 times since 1908.LEXINGTON - At Washington and Lee University's Democratic Mock Convention on Saturday, where Massachusetts' Sen. John Kerry won by a landslide, the day unfolded like this:
As the keynote speaker, political strategist James Carville acknowledged that as a college student he had a 4.0 average on graduation day. "That was my blood alcohol," Carville said.
Third-year law student Evan Sauda, playing a delegate from North Carolina, asked if the Massachusetts delegates would withdraw their support from Kerry, their state's senator, "if the Panthers beat the Patriots" in Sunday's Super Bowl.
A delegate from New York gave an impassioned speech supporting the candidacy of the Rev. Al Sharpton, all the while wearing a Kerry campaign sticker on her lapel.
