72 Bodies Found in Baghdad in 24 Hours
(Tell me this is not civil war ) :eyes:

From Yahoo news:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Police found at least 72 bodies killed by gunfire in Baghdad in the past 24 hours — a gruesome wave of apparent sectarian reprisal attacks in some of the capital's most dangerous neighborhoods, officials said Tuesday.

The bloodshed — the second wave of mass killings in Iraq since bombers destroyed an important Shiite shrine last month — followed weekend attacks in a teeming Shiite slum in which 58 people died and more than 200 were wounded.

Iraq's Interior Ministry announced a ban on driving in the capital to coincide with the first meeting of the country's new parliament on Thursday. The ban takes effect at 8 p.m. Wednesday and lasts until 4 p.m. Thursday.

In a new spasm of violence, authorities said they had found the bullet-ridden bodies of at least 75 people — 72 in Baghdad and three in Mosul.

An abandoned minibus containing 15 bodies was found Tuesday on the main road between two mostly Sunni neighborhoods in west Baghdad, not far from where another minibus containing 18 bodies was discovered last week, said Interior Ministry official Maj. Falah al-Mohammedawi.

The bodies of 17 more men in their underwear and partially covered with dirt were dug up in a field in a mostly Shiite east Baghdad suburb, he said.

At least 40 more bodies were discarded in various parts of Baghdad, including both Sunni and Shiite neighborhoods, he said.

Those killed in Baghdad included a number of bodies recovered from Sadr City, where two car bombs and four mortar rounds shattered shops and market stalls at nightfall Sunday, as residents shopped for food for their evening meals.

7. Exactly
Why not post something about the many schools being opened and how about all those purple fingers. Besides, Gen. Pace says everything in Iraq is Okey Dokey. This just sounds like some more of those last throes to me.

4. But Iraq isn't in a civil war
I'm tempted to start an office pool on the Iraq War. Which previous war will this one be closest to in terms of dead. And how long before that number reaches one million.

5. Oh Lord!
How do those poor people stand it? I would just be a complete nut if I had to live with that day after day.

This is one war that we are never going to live down. There is no way now for us to fix it. We started it for no reason and now we will have two failed states (Iraq and Afghanistan) in the region. And so many terrorist birthing grounds it will be unbelievable.

6. I'm obsessively checking for updates from Riverbend
she's right in the thick of it. :(

at least her last entry on the 6th had a little humor in it. I think if I were in her shoes, I would be too terrified to find anything funny.

8. I usually check the Iraq sites every day.
I know we hear a lot of bad things about alJazeera but I think they are a pretty good News channel. (Backing up now incase I get really flamed).
