Impeachment! Impeachment? Fogedabowdit. give it up.
Not a day goes by when I don't read a blog or a post somewhere about impeachment. Forget it, it's not gonna happen, let it go, focus on something more constructive. Stop living the dream. Wake up. Move On. The senate Dems won't back Feingold, the repubs (who are in total control, remember?) will never hold a hearing, endorse a committee or appoint an investigator. If the pres is brought up on impeachment charges it will endanger all their reelection campaigns. Dems won't persue it for fear of public fatigue from the last impeachment or fear of appearing too confrontational(?) Besides, they're the minority. Enough of a minority that they can't do anything without the assistance of some repubs, and that ain't gonna happen.
Flame on if you will, but just drop all this impeachment talk, it's a distraction from so much more.

4. So what do you suggest should be done instead?
Since you seem content to be defeatist on this issue what is it that you feel would be a worthy pursuit? Also have you considered any value in stating crimes for the record?

23. It's too late, wait for him to leave and prosecute his ass! Let the new
congress get on with the repairing or minimizing the damage that has been done, if it's even possible.

6. How long is "NEVER?"
As in..."the repubs...will never hold a hearing, endorse a committee or appoint an investigator."

Assuming you're not a Diebolder, does this mean after the 2006 election, too? You're that cock-sure that the GOP is going to retain control with the vast majority of the country soured on Bush, his stupid war, and the congressional rubber-stampers in the GOP?

19. NEVER Can be a long time!!!
Are you that sure that the GOP won't retain it's majority? November is stil far away and things can change real quick.

While I have hope that the Democratic party can gain control of the congress, I'm not so blind as to depend on the sheep or the honesty of elections officials in red states.

Hope for the best but expect the worst!!!!

8. Impeachment -- for the children
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 04:17 PM by boobooday
Because even IF it is totally futile (and it is futile for sure if we just give up) at least we can tell our children that we fought for democracy. Otherwise, what do we say? Uh, sorry kids, but the odds didn't look too good, so we just gave it up.

What does it distract from? If you saw your car going off a cliff, would focusing on hitting the brakes just be a distraction from the scenery?

9. OK, what suggestions do you have?
You've pissed on impeachment, said it's not going to happen.

OK - then bring something constructive to the table. What do you suggest we do?

Just shut up and take whatever is forced upon us?

Not trying to be confrontational with you, but if impeachment is out, let's have a dialog about what we CAN do...

21. OK, ok, maybe never say never..
But at this point I'm just so incensed over what this administration gets away with as each month goes by that without a complete takeover of th senate and congress, I can't see impeachment ever becoming a reality. And you've made my point, "Let's have a dialog about what we CAN do."

10. Feingold even spoke against impeachment today...
Offered his censure resolution as a way to rebuke Bush without impeachment.

11. I disagree. Sometimes, even losing propositions are worth fighting for...
If we can take back Congress in 2006, we can pull this off. And the impeachment of Beroge Bush, no matter how slight the chance, is a cause worth fighting for.

15. But Firing People without cause is the great American way!
Why do the people who run the country pretend that America is a fair place with rules and laws that pretend to be equitable? For average citizens the U.S. isn't fair, never has been. Today, minimum wage workers may not even be able to afford food, clothing, 'and' shelter unless they work more than 'full time', yet, they're told, isn't Freedom Grand?

Why do our overlords want a different set of rules for them versus the reality that most citizens exerience everyday for a lifetime?

Expel that student! Fire the executive -- no big deal -- it happens with impunity everyday to many folk in the U.S.!

Uncle Dick already runs things.

With his health, he'd have to pass the torch to Hastert. And then he won't last long....

22. I agree, but for different reasons...
I think we can agree that the re:puke: controlled legislature will not impeach this criminal.
After this years election we will (better) have a majority, but if we pursue impeachment that will be the all we do for 12 - 18 months, and get him out of office a few months before he's gone anyway. In the meantime nothing will be done to undo the incredible mess that the next congress will have to deal with.

The damage is done and we need to concentrate on watching the reps we send to DC to make sure they are doing their jobs. That is all that's left.

24. I take it back
We should fight for impeachment. Why is no one talking about the fact that the republicans used so much political capitol trying to impeach Clinton because he was popular the entire time they were doing it? Bush does not have that luxury..nor do the republicans that would oppose or impeachment effort.
