Yikes, The Note slams Dean on MTP yesterday, they defend Kerry
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 01:48 PM by Skinner
Other Deep Thoughts (with apologies to Jack Handy):

1. We agree with Dr. Dean -- Roy Neel is a great guy.

But to simultaneously make your last-stand attack against John Kerry that he is too beholden to special interests and your defense of Roy Neel's recent lobbying that he is a good guy and he has held other jobs -- well, let's just say that it is causing some cognitive dissonance for your traveling press corps and others.

2. Now that the www.Trippi spell is broken, we can say it loudly and clearly: Dr. Dean's performance on "Meet" yesterday was, by Gang of 500 standards, even WORSE than the historically bad one he had on the show right before he formally announced his candidacy last year: contradictory, petulant, non-responsive, small, and unpresidential (or so thought the Gang&.).

3. We understand why BC04RNC is trying to strangle the Kerry baby in the crib and define him as an out-of-touch liberal before the country gets to know him as anything else -- but don't they run the risk of using up all the good stuff too early? And do the President's pollsters really say that attacking past support for the nuclear freeze (!) tests well?

4. The stories in the Washington Post and New York Times over the weekend about the candidates (particularly Kerry) taking "special interest" money had nothing new in them.

How dare that nasty Dean person say anything bad about Kerry.

By any chance, did they also say the Super Bowl commercials last night were all brilliantly creative?

2. "The Note" is biased towards Kerry for the Dems and Bush for the Repugs...
Didn't you know? pssssstttttt......................This is true. Read it always from that slant and you can enjoy it for what it is. Sort of a Faux lite gossip column with leaks from "operatives" designed to tantalize the reader making them think they are really privy to all that insider Washington stuff. :D

4. BS, they pretended like Kerry was dead for months, this is the first time
they've defended him, EVER, and I read the thing like an addict.

There is a reason the bat has nearly stopped.

6. Uhhh, no... I read it every single day
There was a string of about six months where all they talked about was Dean Dean Dean. Dean this. Dean that. Dean visited here. Dean said this. Dean is impressive. Dean is the clear favorite.

If anything, they were on Deans **** all of last year.

5. Defending Dean and the Note
The Note is probably one of the most balanced insights into what's going on in this election you can lay your hands on. If you're not subscribed, you can't really lay clain to knowing whats going on.

Now, I'm a Dean guy, so maybe I'm prejudiced. But I'm a pretty cynical ex-pro-pol/hack, and I thought Dean was great. I missed the first few minutes of the replay (I watched the CNBC rebroadcast), I was kicking myself for not taping it to play at the Caucus Tuesday night.

He looked and sounded great, and his answers were excellent. If there's some bit I missed, I'll have to go back to the transcript and have a look.

But there was no Forbes/Deer-In-The-Headlight look about him (thank good, his biggest non-issue weakness in my view). His manner and answers all seemed good-to-excellent.

The only explanation I can think of for the Gang of 9 (and 500) to think his appearance was bad is they have Made Up Their Minds About Dean. We know, from the Gore experience, that this is a Bad Thing.

Actually, I wish Dean has followed up more strongly on the scream and asked Russert when NBC's mea culpea was coming. It would have hopefully derailed Russerts clever thing with his year book.

9. agree w/you - what is up w/The Note?
I usually like The Note too, really just for behind-the-scenes stuff, which is it's purpose, but I thought they were REALLY off on the MTP interview (at least the Gang of 500 was).

Yes, I'm a Dean supporter and thought he did great, but so did many of my non-supporter friends and even several of my Repub neighbors (I do live in a one-party state).

The "gang" thinking he did badly threw me for a complete loop!

Is this just everyone jumping on the Dump on Dean bandwagon?
