Jessica Simpson turned down the opportunity to meet the Village Idiot at a Republican fundraiser! Said she would love to meet him and discuss the charity that she is lobbying for but NOT at a Repuke fundraiser. They were SHOCKED...SHOCKED I tell you, because the opportunity to meet the Idiot, or SIT at the head table with Boehner didn't LURE her into their web of spite. Seems to me that THEY should've been fighting over which of THEM would get to sit with HER!! They really wanted to politicize this Texas treasure. The article says she keeps her politics personal. GOOD FOR HER!

Her refusal to participate in the fundraiser was not an indication that she disagreed with bush or his policies. It was because she didn't want to alienate half of the country when it comes to her favorite charity.

It's embarrassing for bush and that's good but it hardly qualifies her as a 'treasure'.

Guess what, it's true. If one is an actor - Not a celebrity - then one indeed has to , "know everything". To give a valid, true performance, one has to be aware of all aspects of the human condition.

There are fewer and fewer people willing to take a public stance. Artists have a platform, and they are citizens like the rest of us. If they do not use their chance to speak to the issues of the day and be heard, who will? Letters to the editor are all very well, but who reads them?

I am hardly a Jessica Simpson fan, but she showed common decency here. The charity she was promotoing provides surgery for kids born with cleft palates and facial deformities. I wouldn't knock her on this.

She had dinner at Bill Richardson's (governor's) mansion a few months agao, but that was not a fundraiser, and she wasn't repping the charity- it was "social".

i am glad she isn't supporting him as it appeared when he first came into office. even then i don't think it was as much about her supporting him than about just supporting the President of the United States whether it was Bush or Gore.

Jessica disses Dubya, but is a 'huge fan'

Jessica Simpson loves President Bush.
She's just not a big fan of Republican fundraisers, reports The Associated Press.

The Hollywood starlet and tabloid cover girl was on Capitol Hill Thursday to lobby
Congress for Operation Smile, an organization that provides reconstructive surgery
to children with facial deformities. But all anyone wanted to know was why she turned
down an invitation to attend a Republican fundraiser with Washington's top star -- Bush.

''We went back and forth, and we could never get the details worked out,'' said her father
and manager, Joe Simpson. ``When it became obvious that it was not just a state dinner,
it was more of a fundraising event, that is the wrong purpose of why we are here.''

Still, he said of the president,
``We are huge fans of him and of his family, his girls. Jessica loves the heck out of him.''
