I love it when Sam sits in for Franken because I actually have something to listen to while I work. :)

1. Sam is truly great. I would love for him to take over Al's timeslot
if and when Al runs for the senate. :)

3. That would be a big problem for AAR — Franken's ratings are #1. NT

4. I have to admit...
I've been jumping off the Al Franken bandwagon for awhile now. I try, I really do try to listen to his show. But I just can't get by the constant "Um....uh....umm.....aaaahhh...let me say that....um....uhhhhh" every single time he talks. I want to reach into the radio and pull the damn sentence out of his mouth!! And he interrupts his guests constantly, and usually it's with some stupid deadpan joke that isn't funny. I find that he wastes so much time with his guests that time runs out before he can get to much meaningfull stuff.

And believe me, I have been a Franken defender for a long time. It's not that I question his beliefs. It's just the constant dead air space filled with um's and uh's that just drives me crazy.

I caught Tom Hartman (sp?) the other day and found it very refreshing.

5. Agreed. Sometimes the theme song is longer than the guests actual time...
I remember one day he had Hackworth on there, not long before the man's death.

Al did this huge introduction that ate most of Hackworth's time. The introduction when for about 3 mins, and they had time for about 2 mins of conversation with Hackworth.

What a waste...

6. I'm with you 100% on this.
Thom is a treasure! He's great debating the cons. I listen to Thom instead of Al now.
Having said that, Sam on at this hour is a real treat. I'll catch Thom's re-runs to tune into Sam.

7. OMG - Anyone else just hear the story Sam read about the Iraq
Vet?

I never cry but this story brought me to tears!

The gentle father who would send roses to his daughter's classroom every year becoming violent with his family once he got back from Iraq. Having his daughters watch as the police hall him off to jail for manhandling his wife infront of his girls. He demanded his gun his wife had hidden out of fear of his recent violent tendencies. When the police asked why he needed the gun, he said b/c it made him feel safe. He went on to say noone knows what he had to endure in Iraq.

The wife described him as a gentle, loving man until he came home from Iraq.

How sad!
