Bush: U.S. Troops Will Remain In Iraq Through The End Of My Presidency
Bush: U.S. Troops Will Remain In Iraq Through The End Of My Presidency

At this morning’s press conference, President Bush said that U.S. troops would remain in Iraq through the end of his presidency. According to Bush, the question of whether U.S. troops will ever leave Iraq will be one for “future presidents.” Watch it:

Transcript:

REPORTER: Will there come a day, and I’m not asking you when — I’m not asking for a timetable — will there come a day when there will be no more American forces in Iraq?

BUSH: That, of course, is an objective, and that will be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq.

UPDATE: The AP has picked up the story.

20. Love ya, autorank!
AND, I second that motion...from an earlier thread:

Sam Seder said just about the same this morning (in for Al Franken this week). I am still reeling from it! That one statement should be the headline of every newspaper and talk show. It is absolutely stunning, even from this heartless bastard. He allowed 9/11 to happen but he didn't get his oil. So, what, he is just bored with the whole mess now? He will just retire with his (borrowed) wealth and leave it to others to clean it up?

I'm just about jumping out of my chair from anger!
What are our troops, and the relatives of our dead soldiers thinking when they hear that?

We cannot allow him to get away with this. We must get Congress back this year. He MUST be impeached!

21. Scare the vote fraud perps into holding an honest election, love ya too!
That's what we need to aim for. There will be so much support for a switch, there needs to be explicit statements to Diebold etc. and the clowns who run some of the elections -- do it right or we'll be around with serious legal and political heat. Demonstrations. etc. It will happen.

Once we're back, we need...

NEW LEADERS FOR A NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

Leaders who will go for it on investigations, make sure that there are prosecutions, and impeach any judge who lets the crooks off the hook.

Part of impeachment has to be stealing 2004. Once that's done and he's gone, all his judges can retire very quickly. They will be seen as totally illegitimate.

I'm pissed too. This is pathetic. Saw him for 10 min with Helen Thomas' question. He went non linear and bumbled for minutes. What a joke.

Start the "restoration" of democracy out there. That's why you're called "The Golden State." (and you have to make up for USC losing to Texas, geez!;)

22. I know, I know. I think USC's 'greatest team' mantra got to them
and so did that last possession. USC is my Dad's alma mater and I told him if he hadn't voted for *, they would have won. Silly, but I don't pass up any opportunities to remind him of his big mistake...lol.

I'm sure you have read that a lawsuit was filed today against McPherson and 18 registrars. Let us hope it is successful. I'm sending $50.00 to them tomorrow.
I protest with Code Pink OC every Wednesday night and I have already made a new sign for tomorrow. It says BUSH (in red) IS OUR WORST DISASTER!!!!

23. Our new slogan should be "It's the war, stupid."
I don't think the President understands that when one makes a huge mistake like this, it is time to reevaluate and make changes in policies, strategies, and directions - not "stay the course"!

If they would have wakened the Captain of the Titanic 15 minutes earlier than they did, he would not have hit that iceburg.

But, Bush has had months and months to see that his course is heading for disaster, yet still he won't change course.

Yup, so much for Karl's "Secret Plan to End the War"
Now that 'troops coming home' head-fake for 2006 ain't gonna work.

4. This is Gerald Ford & Poland. This is Ed Muskie "crying". This is big.
He just admitted that we're going to be there for almost three more years, at least, and if the DC Democrats are too stupid to pick up that club and beat him over the head with it, then they're just too stupid to live.

This is the first time Bush has really told the the truth about his Iraq plans. THEY are never coming home. And the war is endless. And when are we gonna find some leaders to call bullshit and end it?

24. INCREDIBLY SMART
It's obvious, isn't it? He's worried about HISTORY. Long after he's gone.

They will say that Bush "held the line, fought the terrorists to the very end of his presidency (and would have won and Iraq would be a shining beacon if not for all the liberals working against America and the troops)."

No, it will be the SUCEEDING DEMOCRATS who will "raise the white flag of surrender and abandon the Iraqi's in their hour of need, and wear the shame of withdrawing and letting the terrorists win, while it was Bush who DREW THE LINE IN THE SAND AND SAID NO FURTHER."

"If Bush had more support, he would have won long ago. Liberals attacked him and the troops every step of the way. That's why he couldn't finish the honorable fight. We would've won if not for the liberals."

And what happenned when he left, and the Democrats moved in? "They withdrew the troops. They surrendered, and all the blood that followed was their fault."

Smart boy, Bush. Who cares what they say today? We're talking 50 years from now. HISTORY will see him as the never-surrendering war president, and Democrats will be forced to be cheese-eating surrender monkeys.

Smart boy.

26. I don't think history will see it that way. Bush-lovers, yes.
That will be their face-saving story. The record of BushCo's mistakes and lies in starting and prosecuting the war is clear, and I think history will be very, very hard on him.
