Bush Blasts Democrats on Economic Issues

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 7 minutes ago

INDIANAPOLIS -
President Bush, trying to regain his political footing ahead of this year's critical midterm elections, asserted Friday "the difference is clear" between the two parties on how to sustain the U.S. economic recovery.

"If you want the government in your pocket vote Democrat," Bush said. "If you want to keep more of your hard earned money vote Republican."

He made one of his strongest appeals yet for making permanent various tax cuts due to expire within several years.

Speaking at a fundraiser for GOP Rep. Mike Sodrel in what may be one of the closest races in the country, Bush attempted to draw a sharp contrast between the two parties' economic policies.

9. This crapola might have caught on with the average...
... Republican voters four years ago, before they realized who was getting those tax cuts; i.e. NOT them.

The $9 Trillion deficit may not be something they can wrap their heads around. But when the jobless hear Bush talk about keeping more of their hard-earned money in their pockets, they're wondering how they're supposed to earn that money in the first place.

They've also seen where their tax money is going -- into the bank accounts of Halliburton et al.

How many NEW billionaires in the US last year? How many NEW families now living below the poverty line?

The Administration's fiscal policy is now seen to be what it was from the start - "Trickle-UP Economics".

have no power.

This is the issue that will swing the center to our side, and we don't have to go Right to win it.

14. Typical rightard projection.
They do it every time: Take one of your bad traits and project it onto your opponent. It has worked with the sheeple for decades. Maybe they've finally wised up a tad?

The fact that the Repugs control all of government and have created historic deficits and debt can't escape anyone, can it????

Our leaders should be able to knock this one out of the park, or will they cower as usual????

At the current rate of increase, by the end of Bush's second
term the US National Debt will be just over $9 Trillion,
1/3rd having been added by Bush in the last 8 years.

1/3rd of the US National Debt - Over 3 Trillion Dollars -
added by the party that claims to be fiscally more
responsible? 3 times as much as added by Clinton in the
same time frame?

Shocking - but NOT surprising.

29. the national debt clock stopped moving on Clinton's watch too
for the first time ever.

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/09/07/debt.clock/

from that article:

"Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore has outlined a plan that he says would eliminate the debt by 2012.

Senior economic advisers to Texas Governor and Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush agree with the principle of paying down the debt but have not committed to a specific date for eliminating it. "

Notice the difference?

23. You are exactly right!
The thing is there are millions of people that believe he IS speaking to them. For example, a couple years ago I had a conversation with a woman who adores Bush. This lady made, maybe at the best, $20k a year.
When the subject of tax cuts came up I pointed out that when we hear those words they are being spoken to the moneyed class of Americans. They are never directed to the average American. She argued with me no end! She honestly and to the core of her being believes the Republican party looks out for her interests.

Attacks but i haven't heard or read one yet...

Apparently they intend to catapult their poll numbers like this was an election campaign for the PRESIDENCY.. (i know they're doing it to keep the repukes in congress)

So, what kind of spineless mealy mouth response do we get for a response on this bullshit and when do we get to see it served up?

Personally, I'd rather have Al Sharpton hired to respond to these clowns than any of the so called party leaders.

27. It took me less than 10 minutes to find these responses
to an event that just happened. It won't satisfy some, but I really don't think anyone but the Republican base listen to Bush and Cheney anyway.

"To me it shows how dangerously incompetent he is. 'Stay the course, mission accomplished, bring 'em on' - the American people are sick of that. We need to change course in Iraq."
- Harry Reid, Senate Democratic leader, reacting to President Bush's positive assessment of Iraq War progress.

Democrats were quick to counterpunch.
"Under this administration's watch, Iraq has become a training ground and launching pad for international terrorism, North Korea has likely quadrupled its nuclear arsenal, bin Laden remains on the loose, terror attacks across the world are on the rise and Katrina exposed the staggering gaps in the administration's ability to protect America," said Reid's spokesman, Jim Manley.

Democratic National Committee spokesman Luis Miranda said: "Instead of offering a plan for victory in Iraq, the vice president today again resorted to attacks to try to distract from the Bush administration's commitment to a failed strategy."
