Gossipy, anonymously sourced Gore rumor
-if you like Gore rumors. And I do :)

snip>
...."I'm not planning to be a candidate again," the former Veep said at Middle Tennessee State University. "I haven't reached a stage in my life where I'm willing to say I will never consider something like this. But I'm not saying that to be coy." Some still have trouble believing him. A well-placed party operative says, "Democratic contributors are ready to back him. They're testing the waters to see how much money they could raise."

1. If he does run, he's better off now staying below the radar. He'd
be the most electable candidate we have, IMHO.

4. He will be if he refuses all the "help" the DLC gave him in 2000
from the corporate lobbyists turned handlers to the "business as usual" campaign platform to the relatively quick concession.

If he manages to sound like he has over the past 3 years, he'll be very difficult to beat. If he sounds like another conservative wimp, forget it. The base will stay home again.

13. Again? He won last time. And he's been building the vision thing
very nicely.

3. Gore's the one candidate that could kick start the Democratic party. At
this stage he has as good a chance of getting the nod as Hillary, Kerry, Biden, Clark, Edwards etc. IMO, if he should shoot for the top and miss, A VP spot wouldn't work. However, he's such a well educated public servant and great leader that his talents should not go to waste at a time when the nation needs him the most.

He would make at great Sec. of the Interior or head of the EPA.

5. AP carried it
I don't call that a rumor:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/03/20/politics/p174309S87.DTL

Former Vice President Al Gore said Monday he's not planning to run for president in 2008 but hasn't ruled out a future in politics.

"I'm enjoying what I'm doing," Gore told an audience at Middle Tennessee State University, where he gave a lecture on global warming, one in a series.

"I'm not planning to be a candidate again. I haven't reached a stage in my life where I'm willing to say I will never consider something like this," he said. "But I'm not saying that to be coy; I'm just saying that to be honest — that I haven't reached that point."

9. Good
He's not NOT running. A very good sign. It might be best for him to stay out of it for a while until the MSM has finished destroying the candidates they've picked for us. He can avoid the scrutiny of his suits and ties, his weight and sighs until the time is right. :) Technically, he could raise a ton of dough on the net. As has been said he should steer clear of the DLC's help. He doesn't need those backstabbers. (MoDo et al will try to shred him again in a flash for a headline and extra dough.)
I'd gladly go door to door, street to street, town to town to help get him back into the White House...where he belongs. Gore is a man I believe in. My heart would be in it 100%. I'm afraid to hope.
In the meantime we have our work cut out for us to get House and Senate seats back.

7. We can dream (and I do.)
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 01:57 AM by countmyvote4real
But I think Gore is more comfortable in the "Cassandra" role of truth-teller. If only we could have this same truth leading our country out of the BS, we would never have known, if the popular vote were recognized in our so-called democracy. And even as Gore has really found his voice and ultimately, his connection with people beyond the progressive base, I can't blame him for declining the role to which he was already popularly elected. Instead of a piece of pie handed off by the Clinton years, there's this sewer of shit and corruption handed off by "dear leader" and his GOP disciples. Who could blame him, no matter how much we need his intelligence and vision?

All the same, I do believe in Kharma. “Whatever god” knows, there is shit that has been swinging back and forth through the ages. And just when we thought our shit was about to gain some light, it’s received a major dump.

The dump is not about being defeated by a democratic majority. Forgive me if this sounds too reptilian, but in our warm-blooded hearts and MINDS, we all know otherwise. Our popular victory has been stolen from us. TWICE. AND it will only continue that way unless we gain control of our democracy from third party voting machines and tabulating software. A real democracy is only as democratic as it is transparent.

It doesn’t really matter if Al Gore will lend us his leadership and the personal expense to run for POTUS. We the people will not benefit from that choice until our voting process is truly open to it. The HAVA is not designed to do that.

12. He could use his run as a platform for his truth-telling.
That might be a really good way to get him to run, actually. "Look, Big Al, if you run, this time you say exactly what YOU want-- no listening to the handlers! -- and just see what happens."

Al :loveya: Gore.

(Oh, and it's not really HAVA, it's people's implementation of HAVA. We still vote on paper ballots in my precinct and we're HAVA compliant.)

8. Very good news, indeed
and I have a feeling he could raise a lot of money. He was up here in northern Ohio several months ago and raised quite a bit of money for Sherrod Brown.

Gore is still very much respected and admired as a party leader, even though he's been out of the spotlight a while. In fact, being out of the spotlight has given *junior the opportunity to ruin his own public image.

10. Gore would be a great candidate, but if by "Democratic contributors" . . .
he means corporate money, I think he'll be missing the boat . . . what we need is a candidate who will expose corporate influence (control?) of the U.S. government, and the only way that can happen is if s/he is elected WITHOUT any corporate contributions whatsoever . . .

by explaining WHY he's taking this position (e.g. "Did you know that corporations and their lobbyists actually WRITE much of our legislation?"), Gore would open floodgates of money from private citizens who understand, at least to some extent, what corporate control is doing to this country and why we need a president (and a Congress) who is NOT beholden to corporate interests . . .
