1. They shouldn't roll over and play dead. Good for them.
But maybe they should leave Nashville. Country is just too right wing.

3. It seem to me that they did leave country and western a while back &
went to something else.. also I don't know if they really lost any attendance at there concerts and record sales as they appealed to the main stream music and got lots of support from the left that probably never bought country and western..

7. As Natalie says, how can you be accused of not going to

the party when you were never invited (or a paraphrase very close to that)?

8. That's The Kind of Country Music the Country Needs More Of!

I don't think the country fans who were dissing the Chicks were ever fans of theirs to begin with.
Most of them are more likely to BE "Earl" than to want to hear a song like "Earl".
Others were Republican party operatives hired by Karl Rove --
The anti-Dixie-Chicks campaign was very highly organized,
with lots of corporate backing from Clear Channel and the like.

I don't think that any of this has hurt their popularity at all.

4. Love the chicks!
The wife thinks Natalie's voice is too twangy, but she likes the bluegrass sound. I listened to the new song the other day and my wife didn't run screaming from the room, though she did give me a bit of an evil look.

5. From another blog, word is that the Chicks after boycott income
was $100 million. Supposedly, Crooks and Liars had that on their web site. Oh man, that does my heart good. I wonder what Toby Keith's income was for the same time period?

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

-- Natalie Maines, still pissed about getting "Dixie Chicked"
when it turns out she was right all along

10. i wish they'd create some stronger anti-war music
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 06:38 AM by Jeffersons Ghost
I only like classic country like Patsy Cline, Hank Sr. and Johnny Cash, not the watered down rock that many artists sell as country these days... I'm mostly into classic rock and here's some very timely lyrics written about 1972.

Words and music by John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Nick St. Nicholas and Larry Byrom

Monster
Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

(Suicide change-up)
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

(America change-up)
America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster
