Interesting conversation with RW co-worker, not totally buying it . . .
Just had an interesting conversation with a co-worker who turned purple one time trying to convince me that Bill Clinton admitted (pre-apology) to having sex with Monica (then denied the conversation ever took place).

He knows I lean left in many cases, which makes me a flaming liberal in "today's standards".

It came up during his tales of Friday night, where a friend of his "accused" him of being for Petro or Blackwell (Ohio Governor race). Of course, he has told me before of this "friend", and his general attitude of the friend was that he thought she was a flake.

He explained to her that he's an independent (not mentioning his anger at Kerry in 2004, getting beet red when someone attacked Bush's handling of Iraq, saying "Show me someone who would handle it better!") and that he's voted for Dems and Repukes.

He said he doesn't care for Petro or Blackwell, that he's looked at Ted Strickland's stuff, along with a recent, positive article about the Dem candidate for Gov.

I still don't buy his "conversion" . . . I believe he's just trying to appear that he's disappointed with the Repuke candidates, but when he goes into that voting booth, he's going to vote Repuke.

Should I give him the benefit of the doubt? (I don't bring up politics with him, but I did make a hint recently; he said that the Akron Beacon Journal business section was much better than the PeeDee, not hard to do, and I said "That's a bit of a surprise, since there's a faction that says that the ABJ is a liberal rag.")

1. Unless he is a total idiot he HAS to be upset
with the way things are going. However he doesn't sound like someone I would trust to have my back therefore tread lightly.

2. Take him at his word...
If he does, he does. If he doesn't, he doesn't. At the very least, you can take the opportunity to discuss something wihtout breaking out into an argument.

3. The red face and bluster were defensiveness because
everything he believed in was turning out to be shit.

He may very well be coming around, but if the GOP ever goes back to being the basically decent rich man's party of the Eisenhower years, he'll go back to voting for them.

4. I have a friend just like him.
Claims to be "independant" which I think is BS. Doesn't seem to know the difference between liberal and conservative. Expressed dislike for Bush (in certain company) but hated Kerry with passion. I try to avoid talking politics with his sort anymore.

5. this is the new repuke tactic...
they are all now "independents" and they all have voted for both "Dems and repukes".

bottom line is: they are cowards. They are incapable of saying they are sorry, because then they will appear weak. That's the funny part, they will only appear weak to other repukes, to us Dems they would appear sane.

All this is to deflect the constant stream of bullshit and lies that are spewed forth from the WH*. Even the most hardcore zealot of repukes are beginning to bend in wind.
But rather than admit they were wrong they have to find a way to save face without admitting anything, sounds like the usual repuke reflex action to all things negative about them.

6. Ask him if Clinton ever shot anybody

Shooting someone is far more dangerous than getting a blow job.
