About the McKinney video (no visible encounter)
A security video shows McKinney entering the building and moving around the metal detector and X-ray machine.

It does not show her encounter with the police officer, according to officials familiar with it.

Sorry if this is a dupe. I just saw this.

2. It amazes me how quick some people here on DU are to dis McKinney.
Most other Dems get the benefit of the doubt because we know the media and the Republicans have it in for them.

But we believe any old bullshit that comes down the ol' corporate propaganda pipeline (this story started at fucking Drudge, of all places) when it has to do with Cynthia McKinney.

Maybe she's right about the racism. Sad to see it extends to both sides of the aisle.

Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 01:26 PM by IsItJustMe
that the majority of these anti McKinney posts are made by instegators.

Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 01:56 PM by tasteblind
The dude is clearly no instigator, but is advocating for arrest based on what evidence?

If it were Barney Frank, do you think people would be so quick to accept the judgement of Drudge and TheHill.com?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=832685&mesg_id=832685

Edit: Benburch clearly qualifies his statement by saying "if," it happened, so he's not accepting the story sight unseen.

But there's:

6. You said a mouthful....
I am shocked by the number of posters here who are using "code" words and phrases when talking about Ms. McKinney.

Yes, some of them I have thought to be trolls by their postings, but many I know to be Democrats.

DU sure isn't the place it used to be. :(

8. It's really sad.
Apparently everyone is supposed to drop to their knees the second a police officer addresses them.

If that's the plan, then this police state thing should go pretty smoothly. :eyes:

11. I have had a lot of experience regarding police interaction
none of it positive.

But when a cop tells me to stop, I come to a screeching halt.
If he tells me to jump, I ask "how high"?

But then I have had a LOT (unfortunately) of experience in that particular arena.

I just want this affair to go away.
That's why I was happy to make this OP.

16. It's disturbing how many high-count posters are clearly anti-McKinney
The repukes NEVER play by the rules yet these DU posters want her tar and feathered for what was at worst a very minor - and still unproven - disgression.
I back her 100 percent - why try to marganalize one of our best!?

30.  She is presumed innocent until proven guilty
But then again, so is the cop.

The thing I object to is the assumption that she is innocent, and the assumption that the cop was a racist, based on not much more than an affection for Rep. McKinney's politics.

Whether or not she speaks truth to power has no bearing on this case. She isn't accused of hitting the cop with the truth.

12. The cop should be investigated
Why is this white male cop being protected? How did he get his job -- how long has he worked at the Capital and why doesn't he know ALL congressional Reps by sight? From the beginning this has smelled fishy.

I must say that I've been able to add to my ignore list -- which makes reviewing the really important DU threads much easier.

21. Wow!
Well, there you go. Chew on that, everyone who has been criticizing Ms. McKinney for bringing this upon herself for "not wearing the proper ID/pin."

So let's see, members of Congress are not required to pass through metal detectors and are not required to wear ID/pins as a means of identification by Capitol police.

That's two of the arguments used against Ms. McKinney gone out the window.... ;)

29. When you say it doesn't show her encounter
I take it to mean that this doesn't mean the encounter doesn't happen (both sides say it happened), but rather that it couldn't be seen on camera. No suprise there, although I expect some DU'ers would suggest there's some conspiracy.
