Did you hear Howard Dean? BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! CHING! CHING!
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 04:55 PM by Jeffersons Ghost

BOOM: We are going to give America REAL security!

BOOM: We are going to end the Republican Culture of Corruption!

BOOM: We are going to bring EVERY American good health care!

CHING: We are going to withdraw from Iraq, gradually to keep our troops out of harm's way!

CHING: We are going to balance the budget, just like Clinton did, without raising taxes!

Agreed.

But after censure, impeachment - when they're all tried, convicted, removed and imprisoned - can we talk about what kind of punishment we'd like to meet out?

I wanna, I wanna, I wanna!!!!

52. If only I COULD give DU permission to met out the punishment!
They keep blabbing about presidential war time powers and as a Vietnam veteran, I will say this: If the Commander in Chief breaks his oath of office by failing to protect the Constitution, he is a traitor. During war-time traitors get the firing squad.

Because you haven't seen us get really mad yet.

It's about time someone else kept their powder dry, I think. It's time for Democrats to stand up for America, the constitution, and the ideals of freedom and liberty, instead of an ever-expanding lust for corporate influence.

Say good-night, George.

I'm tempted to send one each to people like DeLay, Frist, Libby, etc. with a message like "Here's a gift from me to you, I hope you can make use of it when they finally pack your sorry ass off to a new federal prison in northern Alaska, specifically built for corrupt government officials. Make sure you keep it handy, I hear Cheney likes to be a top..."

The Democratic Vision

A bold new direction for a secure America

Honest Leadership & Open Government: We will end the Republican culture of corruption and restore a government as good as the people it serves.

Real Security: We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies.

Energy Independence: We will create a cleaner and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence: We will create jobs that will stay in America by restoring opportunity and driving innovation.

A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone: We will join 36 other industrialized nations by making sure everyone has access to affordable health care.

Retirement Security: We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American.

Would be nice to clone them. But even better idea. Follow them. We can argue now till the next election who will be the best candidate to replace the blowhole Bush. But maybe one will emerge, maybe five will emerge.

Feingold, Dean, Gore all just have to keep the fire burning. There are real issues out here, soon one of these will take a stand. And from there on, we just need to ride the tide.

So keep foucused on the issues, talk to everyone you know, even outside of DU. And get the hell involved locally, get out the vote.

Howard Dean's neighbor to neighbor campaign coming at the end of April. Get on board. Like it happened with JFK. And forget who said it first, a rising tide can carry the party and country.

Howard Dean's Five-Point Democratic Agenda on Face the Nation

News

By Lee Russ, Section OpEd
Posted on Tue Feb 14, 2006 at 09:13:12 AM EST
Last Sunday, 2-12-06, Howard Dean was one of two guests on Face the Nation. For a man who gets a lot of smear from the right, and grief from Independents and some Democrats, he was making a lot of sense.

Among other things, he laid out a very reasonable five-point agenda for the Democrats, and put Ken Mehlman's recent attempt to portray Hillary Clinton as "too angry" in proper perspective.

....
Elisabeth Bumiller: Let me go to politics, domestic politics. Senator Chris Dodd told The New York Times last week that the Democrats seemed to be losing their voice when it comes to the basic things that people worry about. I mean, you're the chairman of the party, do you agree with that assessment?

Howard Dean: It's certainly not true. I can tell you--I can tell you what our agenda is for the '06 elections, which we have agreed to go with Senator Reid, Leader Pelosi and others.
One, we want honesty and openness back in government again. Two, we want a strong national defense, first of all, based on telling the truth to our citizens and our soldiers before we send troops abroad to defend America. Three, we want American jobs that will stay in America using energy independence as a new industry to create millions of construction and manufacturing jobs. Four, we want a health-care system that works for everybody, just like 36 other countries have in the world. And, five, we want a strong public education system so we can have optimism and opportunity back in America. I think that's a pretty good agenda, and I think it's one that can win it for us in '06.

68. I hate to do the "I told you so thing", but.....
Set your Wayback Machine to just before the '04 election.

Many of us on DU (including me) supported Howard Dean while some of you (if you're still around) were jeering him, and saying after the election he'd be a distant memory, a diminishing spec on the political horizon.

Well harhar de friggin har. I guess we weren't so stupid after all.

Oh, and you're welcome, and forgiven.

73. I have a problem with that last sentence
He says he's not going to raise taxes.

Doesn't that mean that he accepts the Bush tax cuts as worth while?

And aren't those the same tax cuts that he criticized so vehemently (and with damn good reason I might add) during his run for the Presidency?

So if they were such a bad idea at the time (and I certainly agree that they were), why are they a good idea now?

74. Howard has almost always been direct and clear in person
It used to amuse Rove when his little puppet was riding high in the polls.
Howard's kind of straight talk terrifies him when the emperor's clothes are
seen to be not there after all.yin the manner set out by the Sharia of their

The one thing where Howard has to tread carefully--I don't see how we are ever
going to balance the budget without raising taxes back to where they were under
Clinton. I think it'll have to be done on the higher brackets, and this means
me, so I'm not just gloating about someone else having to fork over. But what
use is earning a lot of dollars if the dollar is worth nothing? Besides, if it
means the first steps will be taken toward health insurance for all and education
for every child, then I'll cough it up willingly. If it's to pad Halliburton's
executive suite any further, or spill any more blood needlessly to satisfy the
bloodlust of Boy George, then as far as I'm concerned, it's thievery, and should
be punished in the manner prescribed by the law of their pals in the oil biz:
the Sharia. Cut the &$(&%§($%"'s hands off. Just takes a second, although if done
without a local anasthetic, it hurts a bit.
