1. Done...and voted Hype.
From my own personal experience, where management is trying to put human-directed processes into 6Sigma. IMHO, it works for widget assembly lines, but rarely for people...

6. Any quality philosophy that grants its practitioners martial arts belts...

is a fucking joke to begin with. Why not bestow military ranks or different colored cowboy hats?

There are probably good things that can happen to companies that adopt some of the tools and methods of Six Sigma. But then there are good things that can happen to companies that adopt ANY KIND of continuous quality improvement.

8. My wife....
... is reponsible for overseeing the implementation of Lean Six Sigma (a variation of six sigma that focuses on reduction of waste of effort/materials). I asked her what she thinks of Six Sigma overall.

Her answer "six sigma is like a guitar, you can play it well or just make a lot of bad noise, it's all in how skillfully you apply yourself". She says the Japanese have had good success with SS, but that is because they are good managers to begin with :)

My personal opinion is that companies are looking for a magic bullet, any magic bullet to substitute for the difficult task of actually managing people as inidividuals. This one is probably about as good as another.
