9. The paradigm is incorrect
They think only in terms of left/right, not considering the up/down. Both communism and conservatism are up, i.e., abusively authoritarian when taken to their extremes and simply authoritarian when kept in check. Liberalism should be not only left, but also down, as in socially liberal. Unfortunately, no one seems to consider this part of the equation.
