What about Minimum Wage Rally Today?
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 09:44 PM by benny05

Compared to other DU'ers, I realize I'm a microdot. But I am really disappointed that our posts today focused on the negatives. I'm glad to see posts about Rep McKenney and what she may do or not; Libby pushing blame on * but you know, on that one: until we focus on solutions instead of just problems, * will get away with this. Why, because his party is in power, and they don't care what about we think negatively (or positively).

Today, Sen Kennedy and fmr Sen Edwards had a really cool rally to tell Congress to raise the Fed minimum wage levels. I watched the Live Blogging of Jenni, a new staffer to One America Committee and John Edwards, and it was fantastic to see during my lunch hour. I posted a message here on two areas; got lukewarm responses. Most folks were wrapped into the ABB campaign instead forging ahead. Golly.

My comment is that even if you don't care for Sen John Edwards to run again as a Dem candidate for President, we should all be behind his and Teddy's cause to lift up the poverty stricken, especially those who have lost good jobs and still want one, or those who feel that they are not being rewarded for their good tenure at companies. OAC welcomes those the OAC blog to sign Sen Kennedy's petition for a Fair Wage for the Worker and offer other ideas.

Thanks for reading. I do this for my mom and my employees, whom I fight for their livelihoods and mine every day.

1. This is important
and thanks for posting. How could anyone not like Edwards, he is another true patriot, to many around here would rather bash then really listen to all our good Dems. :patriot: Is there any video of this?

2. I'm sorry I missed this
This is actually more of the kind of thing I'm interested in anyway, I just didn't see it. I usually get their emails on this stuff, don't know what could have happened. Be happy to sign the petition

3. Link to petition to support Kennedy min wage bill
http://oneamericacommittee.com/action/sign-petitions/minimum-wage

PA House yesterday passed an increase in min wage...but repug senate will halve it, if it passes at all. I guess half is better than nothing though.

4. And you're a petal, not a microdot
One of thousands of petals who do things like send roses to Helen, and make sure petitions get signed, and emails sent...

10. Thanks for this!
While I wish they would go a little farther, this is a great start, and I wouldn't have known about it if you didn't point it out :) :yourock:

11. This is one reason why we need to win in November.
With a Dem majority in the house & Senate, we could hopefully get a new minimum wage bill passed! 9 years is TOO fucking long without a min. wage raise. I think it should be raised yearly!

14. I think the M.W. should be raised to AT LEAST $8.50/hour....
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 04:23 AM by file83
...it's still not a lot of money, but it's a heckuva lot more than $5.whatever. How does anyone expect people to make a living on 5 bucks an hour? It's wrong. RAISE IT, and raise the country.

19. Thank you
May the spirit of"Not my problem" DIE.
May those who are"comfortable" realize their comforts come on the backs of others Poorer than they.

A health of a society is determined by how it's weakest most disenfranchised members are treated.
If you do not care about the plight off the homeless or disabled,
If you do not care about minimum wage issues,
Because it is not about YOU,

Than remember your selfishness when it trickles UP and you find yourself on the street unable to pay rent or get your child to a doctor.

See where your snot faced elitism gets you.

The plight of the poor and workers is everyones plight,no matter how far away you want to believe those other people's problems are from your life, the problems they face are closer to you than they appear, especially when you are living well .

Support the unions, support the social safety nets. Share.

And hate the greedy corrupt corporate exploiters of humanity. You are the leash upon the powerful. Do not let them continue to exploit and harm others because when they have destroyed the workers and the poor the middle class will be consumed next. The CEo Does not care about anyone but themselves and their profits..all corporations because they are not living creatures, but are paper entities they are sociopaths by their default behavior. And a sociopath entity or person for that matter is suddenly a bigger danger to entire nations if given power and secrecy. Corporations have no conscience.
