VIDEO: Bush Event Goes Off Script

This morning in Charlotte, a Bush PR event on the war on terror went off-script when a man named Harry Taylor took the microphone. (video at article source):

“‘I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration,’ Taylor said, standing in a balcony seat and looking down at Bush on stage. ‘And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself.’”

Q You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. If I were a woman, you’d like to restrict my opportunity to make a choice and decision about whether I can abort a pregnancy on my own behalf. You are –

THE PRESIDENT: I’m not your favorite guy. Go ahead. (Laughter and applause.) Go on, what’s your question?

Q Okay, I don’t have a question. What I wanted to say to you is that I — in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened by my leadership in Washington, including the presidency, by the Senate, and –

AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Booo!

THE PRESIDENT: No, wait a sec — let him speak.

----------------------------

Heh. Knowing that the cameras were rolling, Il Buce had the presence of mind not to have the Browshirts drag off Harry Taylor kicking and screaming...

1. I have to wonder...
...after seeing the video, Bush looks WAY too composed. Normally he looks befuddled and baffled when something like this happens. I have to wonder if the question and comment wasn't submitted ahead of time, like most of the questions he gets, and he was allowed a chance to think over his answer.

(Although, I should point out I completely believe the guy is legit. You could see how afraid he was standing in that room full of Bush-bots.)

4. If it weren't for that..
..."grace to be ashamed" comment, I'd agree.

I think Bush is just on some really good "anti-depressants" at this time. There is no way a normal person could be in the jam he's in and be all chipper like that.

3. Ironic.
Bushbots love to talk about "freedom," then boo anyone with an opposing viewpoint. :eyes:

7. They only mean freedom for THEM. They're not interested in yours or mine!

5. Bush scraping to fill events
Apparently, they're getting less choosey or less skillful at screening the audiences. I guess Chimpy would rather face an actual question than an empty seat at one of his staged rallies.

6. After the Magic Spell of Bush went away,
those people who attended the event started thinking about what Mr. Taylor said.

They thought about it, not sure what to think.

They know what's happening; they see it too. As they try to get to sleep at night, they lay awake, looking at the ceiling.

"Could he be right?"... "He seemed so passionate about our rights disappearing"... "Bush didn't apologize"....

as they drift off to sleep, they know Mr. Taylor spoke the truth. It might take a few days...
