Charles Barkley just SLAMMED Bush and the GOP
I just saw it on FOX Sports' "The Best Damn Sports Show in America". Charles Barkley was on the monitor via satellite talking to John Salley and the white guy (what's his name?).

Charles said, "This President we got now is probably going to go down as the worst in history". Shortly thereafter he added, "The Republicans have done a terrible injustice to this country and it's going to take a long time to undo it"

7. He denies he was a Republican
He said the notion that he was came from a story about how his mother told him that the Democrats were for ordinary people and the Republicans were for the rich, and he said "I guess I'm a Republican then."

I do recall the Republicans being interested in getting him to run for governor of Alabama, though.

turned him away from the GOP was a verbal altercation with David Horowitz a few years back.IIRC, the show was Maher's "Politically Incorect".Horowitz was quite condescending to Charles who was just getting his footing discussing in the public arena subjects other than basketball. The exchange ended with Horowitz telling Barkley that he wasn't worthy of carrying his luggage to the airport. Barkley showed great restraint.

Since then I've never heard Barkley mention being a Republican.

15. My, what a rational and pleasant response.
The man has said on national television that he's a Republican and that he has voted for Republicans.

But your Mr. Anger smileys sure were intimidating!

I've also heard him on countless interviews saying that he is a proud Democrat. If you read somewhere that he was a Rethug, I'll bet it was some time ago.

He used to fill on on Crossfire for the left.. and I have to say, he always did a GREAT job!!!!

Nothing against anyone here!!! Sorry.. It just ticks me off when DU'ers completely IGNORE what their fello DU'ers have posted to explain a B.S. post and they continue to respond to the bogus post like it was the gospel truth.

Barkley is NOT A REPUBLICAN!

Maybe he was one eons ago, but if he WAS... he's a most definitely a proud (and very verbal) Democrat now! ~~

Edit.. Ok, maybe he's a proud Independent? But he's definitely NOT a THUG! :)

11. I think this is the point--Republicans are turning against Bush!
After all if we are ever to get our country back we must seek to UNITE people!

Bush symbolizes the "DIVIDE AND CONQUER theory....

Bush has made people hate each other based on their party affiliation--it's sicking what he has done.

I believe we all basically want the same things for ourselves and our families, but people have been made to forget that.

IT'S TIME TO REMIND PEOPLE THAT WE ALL HAVE TO LIVE ON THIS PLANET AND WE HAD BETTER GET IT RIGHT SOON!!

12. Yeow! He said that and he's a Republican?
Things are obviously going downhill at a pretty rapid pace for this fascist group. I've never seen such a collectively, corrupt administration in my LONG lifetime. It's really serious when their own party starts to turn on them. It makes me respect Mr. Barkley for being candid.

They really need to go while there's a little bit of this great country left to salvage.

...Crossfire for Begala/Carville???

Where is this "he's a ReTHUG" crap coming from!?!?!?!

And WHY after countless people here clarify that he's NOT A FRIGGIN RETHUG, do some DU'ers ignore what they say and still comment about him being one?

16. An exchange between Barkley and Novak 10/14/2002
NOVAK: Mr. Barkley, it's been rumored ... I think you've even said it, but I'm going to ask you straight, are you a Republican?

BARKLEY: I'm not either, to be honest with you. I made a joke with my grandmother one time. I was asking her, "Why are we always a Democrat?" I said, "Because you know, I don't know. Everyone in Alabama is a Democrat. Why are we Democrats?" She said, "... Republicans are only for rich people." And I said, "I'm rich." And she hasn't given me a viable answer.

I don't really go with either being a Republican or a Democrat. I like people.

21. Sir Charles has always been a straight shooter -
He was endorsing some kind of athletic shoe - I don't remember which one, but I kept his quote about it:

"These are my new shoes. They're good shoes. They won't make you rich like me, they won't make you rebound like me, they definitely won't make you handsome like me. They'll only make you have shoes like me. That's it."

One other quote I've kept: ""I like spicy things, to get discussions started, whether we're talking role models or racism, rookies or Rodman. I was chosen for some reason to live this life, and if all I do is make a lot of money and never speak out for anybody or myself, that would be a waste. I've said and done some things wrong, but I can honestly say I've done more right than wrong. Am I going to heaven? It's going to be a real close vote."

I have no idea who these were said to, or when, but I've had 'em a while. I think Charles is a good guy.
