How Democrats can use "culture of corruption" to cripple GOP
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 01:47 PM by yurbud
Edit: added bold-face

The GOP is not going to pass any meaningful anti-corruption legislation.

In addition to mentioning this, any Democratic candidate should go farther and pledge this, and dare their opponent to do the same:

  • When I leave office, I will not become a lobbyist for any business interest, financial institution, or industry.

  • I will not become the CEO, corporate officer, or trustee of any for-profit business, financial institution or industry.

  • If I start a business of my own, it will not do business with the government, nor use my contacts within government for commercial advantage.

  • If I do any of these things, I will forfeit my Congressional pension and change my name to Tom Delay, Jr.

  • As a legislator, I will fight to make this not just my pledge, but the law.

If candidates actually had to do this, it might seriously thin the number of people seeking office.
