France: Over one million march:
Withdraw the legislation entirely!

Over one million people marched Tuesday last week for a fifth day of actions in nearly 200 towns and cities across France demanding the government withdraw its newly passed First Employment Contract (CPE) law. Their message to the government is "Withdraw the legislation entirely!". In the majority of the large cities, there have been demonstrations beyond the official national days of action.

French union and student leaders on Wednesday gave the French Government the deadline of April 17 to revoke the First Employment Contract (CPE) law, or face more million-strong protests.

The CPE, sponsored by French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, and signed into law on Friday by French President Jacques Chirac is an open-ended contract for under 26-year-olds to be dismissed by an employer without explanation during a two-year trial period.

The CPE law breaches hard-won labour rights and would make it very difficult for young people to find long-term jobs and create a situation where young workers would be pitted against each other and other workers.

2. Back in the 60's, the social aspect was a draw to the massive
antiwar/antidraft demonstrations here in the good ole USA.

Some things never change, I guess.

6. Those French...Always with the Liberte! Egalite! Fraternitie!
...and "bustin' a move on the Bastille."

What will it take for one million Americans to march on Washington?
