Hitchens calls Armitage-Colin Powell's Bitch: Gets edited

MSNBC edits it out in the repeat broadcast.

Christopher who is not one to mince words even surprised Chris Matthews today. Fresh off of Robert Sheer's new article in which Colin Powell proclaims that Iraq never posed a serious nuclear threat-Hitchens responds to Evan Thomas' defense of Powell.

Video-WMP Video-QT

Thomas: He (Powell) wasn't against the war. He was against doing the war right then. If you talk to Richard Armitage-his aid, they were ready to go to war-they just didn't want to do it that year...

Hitchens: his aid (garbled)...his bitch you mean.

Matthews: His what?

Hitchens: His bitch, why aren't you, why are you calling Colin Powell a good soldier...

3. I honor the man's intellect but disagree with him fiercely on Iraq.
Still, I love it when anyone at all trips Tweety up.

That's kinda fun.

12. I've heard about this intellect before
But I've never seen it. He's always struck me as somebody trying really hard to pretend he's an intellectual. However, I've only really come to notice him in the past few years so maybe he was once something much greater.

13. His work in THE NATION for many years was stellar. And through the
haze of his pro-Iraq stance, he remains a formidable mind and talent.

My disagreement with him on Iraq aside, I would definitely not want to debate the man. A wounded lion's claws are at least as deadly as a healthy specimen, and the ferocity is real & earned.

I'd like to see a debate between Hitchens and Christiane Amanpour. Honestly, that would be a lot better than the usual talking heads on MSM news programs.

16. He has so completely bought in to the "post 9/11 world" hype...
...that I just find it hard to take him as credible. His defense of the Iraq War is a good example, but more generally he has decided that the United States can and ought to do whatever it deems necessary to protect its own security. I suppose you can make an intellectual argument out of it, but it is so entirely unconvincing that anyone who tries ends up looking like a hack. I think that is the corner Hitchens has backed himself in to.

19. Have to agree. He's got the smarts to halfway defend the position,
but it isn't washing at my house.

But I stop to consider how he sounds defending a disastrous policy and how Rumsfeld and Rice sound, and I remember Hitchens' range.

And no matter what, at this point I believe Bush has completely lost Iraq, the country, the issue, the momentum, the public relations distortions -- all of it. He's toast.

22. Actually, he has a PRE-9/11 view.

Who was calling for armed intervention in Afghanistan before 9/11? Liberal activists were.

As to Iraq, Hitchens genuinely wishes to spread liberal democracy and freedom. While he does see as advantageous to US security (you don't see too many wars between liberal democracies), that is a mere byproduct for Hitch. He just wants to make the world a better place for all peoples. In other words, he is a liberal do-gooder.

But he has fallen into the trap of looking for a simple solution (give them democracy) for a complex problem.

7. I saw this yesterday
I thought Hitchins was calling Powell W’s bitch.

Anyway, the guy would not shut up and Chris was trying to promote his LA appearances.

Namely, showing a clip of him and Kimmel

I actually thought Hitchens had integrity when he called Kissinger a war criminal. Now that he can't admit being wrong on anything in Iraq, I just feel sorry for him.

He made some remark about the Cheney daughter who is in the State Department working on Middle East policy and Tweety stuttered and balked and didn't bite, really. What was that about?

He's in a 24-hour state of denial. He's still peddling that load of crap about how Iraq really was trying to buy yellowcake from Niger.

Unreal.

Doesn't matter that he can be eloquent. He's a political WHORE and so not worth listening too, especially if you try to follow his twisted and tortured logic on IraqNam.
