Spoiler alert....Just saw V on the Imax and it was.....
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 11:30 PM by yourout
awesome! This was probably covered in an earlier post but I see the following metaphors.

Chancellor = Bush
Sleaze bag that killed the Chancellor = Cheney
PR spin mister = Rove
Drug crazed TV guy = Rush Limbaugh
Lady Doctor that created the virus = Colin Powell
Detective = Fitzgerald?....hopefully

Virus outbreak = 9/11
Torture prison = Gitmo

But were is V?

Paging V....Paging V........V please report to the US citizens.

1. Can you put a spoiler warning in your headline?
Some of us haven't seen it yet and the thing about the sleaze bag is a spoiler.

3. only problem with V is the old tired theme, violence solves a problem
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 11:32 PM by peacetheonlyway
when we all know violence only begets more violence.
everytime a bloody revolution happened, the government taking over was often as bad or worse than the one in place before the revolution....

the not so hollywood movie selling way to solve a ditatorship problem, is often the peaceful 'noncooperative' way.

when he hands to train over to natalie to decide to drive into the building or not, that was the point
I was shocked she went ahead and did it. I was almost sure the folks wearing the masks would get
killed as a theme that violence only creates more violence, instead, we are supposed to feel good
that destruction and ruthless killing is ok because it's the villians V was killing.
I did get a chill up my spine though, with the folks in masks walking over the walls and no shots were
fired and the policemen just stood there stunned by the #'s.. that's more like the kind of peaceful takeover
I think we should contemplate at the white house....

bottom line, I think the writers of the matrix series are pissed off at all the gay persecution happening in today's society and they let their pissed off evil sides write this film. I'm sad they missed a huge opportunity with a few simple twists to advocate the only way to overthrow a government is peacefully, otherwise you've just replaced thugs for thugs...

and the detective is so not fitzgerald.. he's pretty much a "YES MAN" to the evil ruler, and only after extreme evidence, finds his backbone and his courage and even then, he's still chasing down the enemies of the state (V), never once questioning the big political picture even when he knows it's what killed his family, so he's more like colin powell than fitzgerald.. he knows what's right deep down but can't seem to do it.. he's more of the cop mentality, fight the bad guys and never question the superiors who are labelling the bad guys...

but overall, I was pretty upset with the movie as being one in a long string of movies that advocate senseless killing but justifying it for the right 'mission'. same thing with 24 (and I"m a huge fan don't get me wrong) but jack commits torture more than a guard at abu ghraib with the rationalization that it's required for stopping terrorism...

it seems the worst thing to come from 9/11 is america's lost her peaceful spirit... I just wish V had a few diff. plot twists, that's all...

4. I have to admit the idea of a couple of million Guy Fawkes..
masked protestors walking up to the White House is quite a visual.

5. overall your connecting the dots
was dead spot on...

do you think we could all collect enough money on DU to get the masks bought and stage a V style demonstration in DC...

that would be awesome.....

i get a kick out of folks who have the V mask as their icon..
I totally dig the premise behind the movie... let me say that.. I dig revolutions where the people get back their governments, because, they always do....

tomp... i'm sorry, my 8th grade american history brainwashing again, rearing it's ugly head.

I guess I should have delineated..
more peaceful than the aggregious aggressors with 'pre-emptive mania' driving insanity...

in other words, wasn't it just a little calmer once in our history????

help me out here, I'm trying to stay positive...

6. sorry.. one more thing..
maybe cindy sheehan is V...

she isn't a masterful swordsman, nor is she capable of generating enough blood in 2 minutes to keep you on the edge of your seat, but she drive Shrub from his comfy redneck villa in crawford to another hideout at camp david..

for being simply a mourning mother of a dead iraqi soldier.. she pretty much rocks with what she's accomplished so far..

9. in a way... we are all V aren't we...

I worked for carlyle recently.... or better yet a company carlyle bought to create a global communication network that is unaccountable to any specific government and yet gives a portal into controlling entire bottlenecks of comms traffic to/from asia.... anyway, having gotten passwords to most of the systems.. in some way I'm already a V...

now how to peacefully make use of such an advantage.....
sometimes you have to climb inside the machine (evil machine) to see how it operates to understand it and then to eventually, quietly and peacefully to dismantle it, till one day it (the evil machine) wakes up and it's lost all (and I mean all) it's power.. that was the hope of the movie V for Vendetta... that it could happen so swiftly when large volumes of people stand up and grow a backbone...

I have yet to see large volumes of americans standing up (except at peace rallies and we haven't grown enough backbone to do massive civil disobedience yet, but we're getting close)...
as even at the recent hispanic rallies, there were people actually saying 'viva la bush' like he's the guy keeping frist from making them all criminals.. it's insane the brainwashing entire segements of society believe either from ignorance (indifference) or a lying press....

11. You worked for Carlyle?
What company? eAccess? TBC? Verizon Hawaii? I've been investigating Carlyle's companies for an essay I'm writing on data mining and NSA wiretaps. I'm trying to connect the dots and understand what they're doing. The more I discover, however, the more I fear the government.
