The Revolt of the Generals (Time Magazine)
Time has a 3 page article about the"revolt". I can only hope Fitz gets on with his indictments and gets Cheney out of the WH and then the house of cards will fold.

A friend who recently spent the weekend with Rumsfeld and his wife predicted Rumsfeld would stay for the duration: "They will have to pry him from his stand-up desk with a crowbar." In Cairo last week, Rumsfeld tried to take it all in stride. "If every time two or three people disagreed, we changed the Secretary of Defense of the United States, it would be like a merry-go-round." But Rumsfeld may again be underestimating the strength of an insurgency--this one in his own backyard. Other retired officers are expected to make their views known soon. Which means this Revolt of the Generals has yet to run its course.

1. Good, let him hang on !
He can be one of the poster boys for incompetence, greed, and wrong-headedness that Dem candidates can run against in mid-terms and 08.

4. Getting rid of Rummy
would breed the illusion that everything would now be fine. And we open up the possibility that as this fucked up war continues, the republicans would point fingers at those generals and the Democrats who they are busy trying to tie to this revolt. I can just see them wringing their paws with Russert, "Ohhhhh, this would have never happened if Rummy was here...big bad Democratic-generals lost our beautiful war!"

Rummy is a problem woven into a larger problem. The entire concept of this war is flawed; PNAC is the brainchild of zombie. Without getting them all out, not much changes except their wiggle room increase.

I say get rid of a bunch of critters in 06 so we can control something. Then watch them squirm as the investigations roll on out. And those investigations hold the key to 08.

3. You can tell Rummy is worried...
According to the NYT, the Pentagon sent out a memo to GOP-friendly generals on Friday, giving them "talking points" to rebut the arguments of those who are speaking out.

Just this morning, Wes Clark was on Fox with some Air Force Lt Gen (the same one who testified for the war back in Sept 2002), and the neocon AF general was using some of the stats that the Times includes in the article.

One general who spoke to the Times about it chose to remain anonymous, saying he wouldn't be invited to future Pentagon briefings if they knew he had talked. Gee, that's a big surprise, isn't it?

These chickenhawk civilians are pitiful... or would be if they weren't so damned dangerous.
